Feel for you. Sadly I doubt that car will be totaled, but on the brighter side (and based on the one pic) should be a straightforward repair. Can't imagine there is any frame damage. Fight for finished value.

To hard to know if they will total, it did jump a curb and slam a building.....will see when they pull it apart. but with airbags deployed its a straight diminished value argument.

**** happens.
Resale in this car has been dealt a huge blow. On a street Carrera an accident is usually a $10K hit in value. A GT3 RS?? Ouch ...
I hear diminished value claims are very difficult.
This "test drive" may have been a bit irresponsible. What was the explanation?? This kind of sh*t just doesn't happen. Not like someone hit him. He hit a building! Quite a clusterfuc* of a situation.

I hear the same. The good news is the premium of new and used is so big, should be hard to argue ultimately that the value isn't significantly diminished and the cars appreciate. I also agree it's going to be a fight, hence the lawyers and my insurance on tap to fight.

I think you'll find it impossible to argue any value based on current inflated "market adjusted" pricing. If anything, MSRP will be the starting point. It's a new car after all, not an old collectors car
Like I said, I hear getting any $$ for this is VERY difficult. If that was the case, any accident victim would get $$ for it.

Yeah definitely a risk which is why I insure them at agreed value instead of formula. More expensive, but when this stuff happens I'll have to lean on my insurance company to fight given the agreed on the value at time of insurance (through appraisals and transaction prices). Smashing my head and pissed this will fall in my lap to chase $$$$.

Was really straight forward, narrow street, stopped at stop sign, took off traction control and punched it, lost the back end, kicked the car around so it was perpendicular to a building then hit said building. Owner of the shop is being very stand up at the moment, my worry is when the bill comes due that will fall apart. The owner was driving the car when it happened.

Oh man, that's infuriating. Often see guys tearing away from tune shops on a cold engine and zero mechanical sympathy.
In such a situation I would push to let them provide you with a suitable replacement car. They can then keep the wreck and try to recover some of the loss.

Why would anyone take off traction control? New car with tires still slick on top of it?
Impact looks more high speed than just a stop sign launch. Maybe lost it after a shift from 1-2 or 2-3 gears at too high of a speed of course, and definitely in "above break in" RPM's. My assumptions. Irresponsible driving in any case, especially with a customer car
Well, good luck my friend. I'm sure it will be a bumpy road.

STG I thought the same thing, but hard to tell from the two pics. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now as my guess they are going to have a big decision to make, if insurance drags me down that rat hole I will give them the option of writing me the check and they deal with their insurance on a fix/sell/recover. If it gets messy I will sue. One of those times where you really have to bite down and take ownership. We will see. Thanks STG, it's going to be a haul I'm sure.

Good luck once again. I'm upset, and it's not even my car. Please keep us posted.
I agree, keep the name of the shop out of it now. It's an advantage you can use down the line rather than losing that card now. Good call.
This story with the name of the shop could go viral. Especially with this car. I'd be losing sleep if I was the shops owner. Can kill his business or put a huge "dent" into it.

Defineltly have agreed value. My agent is tip toeing around it, we are pulling appraisals before going with them for a settlement offer. My worry is the foot dragging. Rob, I agree I am very hesitant to let anyone touch the car on a test drive, this person should have known better, they race porshes in SCCA and GT3. Turning off the traction control in these cars regardless when not on track is insane, but after it is headered and tuned up??? Agreed no test drives allowed.
