RS or Wait for .2 GT3
#16
If it were me, unless I had a guaranteed .2 GT3 allocation at sticker, I'd probably buy an RS now, though I'd try to get them down to $25k over.
On an unrelated note, RL really needs to invest in some IT resources. This site has serious problems and the mobile app is a mess.

WELP - Too crappy a trade on my car to do this deal in a hurry like this. Can't get hit on both ends (premium and cruddy trade). Good to know that I'll need to sell mine privately whenever the .2 GT3 allocation shows up. I'm sure will be fairly easy to sell my car if I price it right when the time comes. Good part - I really like my car so back to driving it.

Get the .2.
RS's are much too common. They made a gazillion of them. Overwhelming WW production RS flood informational facts right here on RL. Straight from the cleaning ladies' mouths.

I'm not in the RS game for a few reasons, but if you are, I'd probably go for the RS. I realize they're not offering what you expect in the trade but give it your best shot if you haven't. Another factor is, how long would you be keeping it if you got the RS? It certainly would hold it's value, long term better than the 3. Best of luck in your decision.

I wouldn't pay over msrp for any new car, but that is just me. If given both cars at msrp and I prefered pdk, I would choose the RS. Since you would get pdk either way, there is no benefit to the 991.2 GT3. Good luck with your decision.

I appreciate all the advice. What hooked me in was the spec. White, black wheels, LWBs, standard brakes. Perfect for me.
They were quite a ways off on the trade because my car is one of the early, early GT3s that got bought back and engine replaced. What I now know is that whenever the .2 GT3 comes along I'll need to private sale my car. Someone will end up getting a great deal on a solid car. Hopefully someone who otherwise wouldn't have gotten in to a nice 991 GT3. Based on what I learned today, my car will surely end up on the Rennlist Marketplace so if you are looking for a deal keep me in mind.

I'd get the RS. I'm confident I'll get a 991.2 GT3 allocation at MSRP, but I'm also hoping to have the option of a lightly used RS if the market softens a bit. too far out of reach for me at the moment though. But if I can get a white RS for around $180 (even a stripper spec), I'd go for that. the RS seems just perfect, and I don't think I'd ever look back.

Something to be said for just heading over to the dealership and pick up a car you like the spec on.
But, if they nail you with over msrp on the RS and give a crappy trade in value on your 991gt3. I would tell them to go pound sand to.
Good luck with your current car and next gen gt3. Sure will be amazing.

Tim,
I went through the same analysis. My conclusion:
1. If my '14 E engine goes and I get the latest and greatest G series I am keeping it. We will never get another NA 9K.
2. I have spent too much time trying to find an RS, new or used, at what I would consider a fair deal. I am over the RS.
3. I have a confirmed allocation for a 991.2 GT3.
Bottom line, I really want to keep my '14 with a new G engine; if not I am going for the 991.2.
Good luck with your decision.

They pounded it because it is a buy-back car with a replacement engine. Thus it has a "branded" title. It's silliness IMO because frankly the car should arguably be worth more - new engine and extra year of warranty. But whatever. Long/short: After I very politely walked away (happy with my GT3) they found they could do much, much better on the trade several hours later. I'm the proud owner of a new RS.
Key aspects of the spec:
- White
- Leather Black/GT Silver
- Illuminated sills (could do w/o that)
- Wheels black
- Xenon/PDLS in black
- Red seat belts, fire ext, footwell net, ext. rng tank, smoking
Lightly optioned which I like. Would have probably specced FAL if I had done it myself, but I could go either way. I very rarely use it on the GT3 - definitely not at my house.
