Default 911 R Book - summer 2017

Just read that there will be a book dedicated to the 911R appearing later this year - from the same team that published the Carrera RS books... should be a good one!

I still have my original edition RS book (numbered one for each of the 73RS units built) and it actually has appreciated quite a bit (supposedly worth thousands now, if you can believe asking prices). Looks different from the ones sold now.

Willing to sell if someone thinks it's worth that much.

It would be nice to order and have this 911R book in English language if it becomes available.

Drive safe,

I have an 'Original' RS book, that can be purchased for a reasonable (more than the subject reprint book) offer.

The 911R
by Alan Smithee

Chapter 1

Once upon a time, all new Porsches were cars with flat-6 engines derived from motorsports with manual transmissions, even the ones that did not look like race cars. Porsche sold hundreds of thousands to enthusiasts over many decades until 1998. A few of these cars were called the 911R.

Chapter 2

Starting in 1999, Porsche decided you needed to have spoilers in order to buy a new Porsche with a motorsports derived flat-6 engine and a manual transmission. Porsche sold tens of thousands until 2011.

During that time, Porsche started making trucks and luxury sedans, telling their enthusiast base that this would ensure the company's ability to continue making the cars they wanted.

Chapter 3

In 2016, Porsche decided to once again sell cars with flat-6 engines derived from motorsports with manual transmissions and without spoilers, but only made 991 of them for those that bought a $1m hybrid 4WD car with spoilers, and without a flat-6 engine or a manual transmission.

The End

Awesome Book, just saved me hundreds! Thanks!

I still kick myself for not buying the original Carrera RS book. I could have gotten one brand new from a now defunct automotive book store in Hollywood for $250. At the time I had a '72 911T that I turned into an RS clone. I really wanted it, but then thought gee $250 for a book? Grrr...why didn't I treat myself

Heard back from the publisher.

Will be in German, English and perhaps French.

They are compiling a list of people to email when the book is available. A Contact Us link is on their website.

Book arrived just prior to Christmas. It is superb. I am sure those who ordered one will love it.
