Interesting product, and I'm not surprised by the growth of 100%. Still hard to gauge if they are pulling share from Porsche, Ferrari, or Lambo minus seeing the side by sides. Also an increase of 1600 car sales across the globe is a small number relative to the number of Porsche cars sold that compete in the same space if some share came off Porsche.

I see several issues with MAC small dealer network, high depreciation, owners get screwed because their car is obselete the next year with a new model. (650, 650S, and two versions of the 570 in less than a year) if I would take a guess I would say share is coming from Ferrari or Lambo because of the price point. Also Porsche GT cars tend to be used by more guys that track their cars and driving the crap out of them, and MAC is more see my new toy in most cases. I have a friend that had 3 650's, 570, and 675LT, and all sold or traded with less than 2000 miles.

I have driven the 650S, and the brakes are crap when stopping hard at 190mph. Same run in a Turbo S the brakes are rock solid and I felt safe vs. the MAC getting loose in the back during braking. The Porsche never over heated launch after launch like the MAC so they have some durability issues to solve, but they are super fast! They do make it easy to order cars, and paint them any color you like though? Almost purchased, but would never buy new due to the depreciation hit which is terrible.

Yup said in simple terms vs my rant(:

I drove a 570 over the weekend...was very impressed. Will consider when my lease on the TTS is over.

Also, I think the 675LT is stunning and a big winner.

Mclaren is heading in the right direction.

I'd take a 570S over a 991 Turbo any day of the week. Its not even close in my book actually. Performance sure...desirability, no chance.

Agree same price point for sure. When you go to 650 it's gets bad 330k MSRP that's Ferrari land.

Good for them! I would certainly consider one if I were in the market for a modern "baby" super car. Definitely have more of an appeal to me over Porsche's current offerings.

I'd take 570s over 991 turbo also. Did the Mac track day here at PBIR and did over 25 laps in one. It wasn't RS fun but in straight line it was like a freakin rocket and it was fun enough!! Also happens to look way more exotic than anything south of a 918 or Carrera GT.

chillindrdude 01-09-2017 02:34 PM

are 570s going for msrp? or more/less?

rosenbergendo 01-09-2017 02:36 PM

Way less.

Let's see where they are in 5-10 years. Let's all remember where the economy has been in the last few years....lot's of $$$ out there. Might not be the case in the near future.

570S seems to holding its price pretty well, at least from what i see from the mclaren forums.

Ducati1199 01-09-2017 05:32 PM

12C's and 650's took a dump and McLaren admit they got it wrong. Will a 540/570 appreciate? Doubt it very much but they're holding their value right now. Very few cars hold price like a GT does.
To be transparent - I sold my GT3 and switched to a turbo, DCT 570S and haven't looked back once whether on the track or street.

It'd be nice if they came out with an entry level McLaren priced around $200k for folks that want to get our feet wet with the brand.

tcsracing1 01-09-2017 10:38 PM

Nice cars.
Their GT4 race program looks to be winner too.

it is the lambo/ferrari alternative IMO.

Porsche currently has nothing to offer in the same configuration until they make the 960.

I would take a TTS over the MAC because i can stick my kid in the back and drive to the ski hill. Then go to a movie and leave the car parked outside.
