I have driven the 650S, and the brakes are crap when stopping hard at 190mph. Same run in a Turbo S the brakes are rock solid and I felt safe vs. the MAC getting loose in the back during braking. The Porsche never over heated launch after launch like the MAC so they have some durability issues to solve, but they are super fast! They do make it easy to order cars, and paint them any color you like though? Almost purchased, but would never buy new due to the depreciation hit which is terrible.

for a true data point, regardless of what the other posters chime in with:
my store sold 44 McLarens in 9 months last year. of the 570's, we only discounted a few of them (based on age) and have sold a lot of our demo cars with 1000-2000 miles for both 650S and 570s to different groups of people...what I notice:
* "Mistreated Customer" is the TOP linearity between all buyers that we take from Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc. A lot of them have given up on those local stores and end up with us.
* " something more custom, more exotic and 'not a lambo'" is another comment we get a lot from people
* I'd say 50% of our McLaren buyers are either GT3 owners or stepping up from GT3 /RS cars into a McLaren.
* focused on performance, and not status- we don't get drug dealer club promoter types nor do we get the flashy "business leasers" that I see at BMW, Mercedes and some of those brands. Generally our customers are relatively established, 45-55 yr old guys that LOVE driving and putting miles on their cars.

Whist the 650 and LT brakes work fine from a stopping distance prospective. The are not up to the same level as the ceramic coated discs that Porsche have used from Aug 13, as far as sustained track use is concerned. Also in UK on Macs we have to pay 800.00 Inc Tax for a post and pre track day inspection in order to remain under warranty whist on track.

I like where McLaren is going and picked up a 570S - plan on placing a deposit on a P14/720S this week. There weren't a lot of dealer discounts being offered.
Sure the jump between models hurts resale, but I would rather be picking up a new car that's a leap forward than a small step.

Interesting, CJ. Sounds like Porsche is putting its best foot forward with the next GT2 RS (from some of the impressive rumors) in an effort to keep some of these customers from jumping ship. Porsche hasn't really had something that can run with a 675 as well as the 2RS may (but 720 on the way also)...
