Keep spreading misinformation on Rennlist buddy.
918 did three laps back to back to back at 6:57 (all within a few tenths of each other) earlier this year when Porsche was setting the Ring lap time for the 991.2 GT3. You can even see the lap times in the GT3 video/pictures on the billboard.
The Viper is a great track car (I have driven my buddy's car a few times at the rack). Unlike the Lambo SV, I don't doubt any of the Viper's lap times set here on the US tracks. However, due to Viper's high downforce set up and relative lack of power, it does not favor high power tracks (eg. Monza, Portimao, Ring).

Viper did pretty well considering.

720S MSRP = $284,745.00
570S MSRP = $188,600.00
Plus options of course. And each car comes standard with carbon ceramics as it should. Things like lifter cost only $2,500 vs the $3,500 Porsche charges.
720S is less than the GT2. Yeah 570 is more money than GT3 but it's more car. Better comparison would be the GT3RS or perhaps Turbo S.

and in two years the GT2 RS is still 300k plus while the 720LT has pushed the “regular” 720 price down by 100-150k.
i like the 720 but man that car is going to crash hard in a year. In 18 months, it will be a bargain to buy.

Spent the day car shopping - gave the 720S another go (about 40 minutes), but still struggling with it for my use (primarily street). Came away thinking the 570 Spider might be the sweet spot in the current line up.
Local dealer has three 720s available with another on the way. Very heavily optioned, but surprising they were available on the floor.

So according to various sources the problem the 720S has is McLaren's past history of rapidly making their cars irrelevant and their road map for the future suggesting it'll get no better.
Owners and potential owners are worried the 720S will depreciate too quickly so they're not buying them, cancelling pre-orders or trying/failing to flip them.
It's become a self fulfilling prophecy of depreciation, two months ago if I wanted a new 720S I'd have to wait till the end of 2018, now I could have one in March.
As I see it McLaren have no history but their recent history and their recent history includes them screwing 12C owners with the 650S redesign and then screwing 650S owners with the 675LT and 720S.
Looking at 650S resale prices compared to 488 and you can see why people are concerned.
I could see a McLaren Sports series in my future but I'd be very cautious about when and what I bought. I'd probably look at the the 570S replacements Spider, gambling I'll like the looks of it more than the current model.

Trade in a GT3.1, the GT3RS .1, and the GT3.2 when the .2RS is here. All will depreciate.
We are currently in a bubble with these prices, I have seen it before.

You want car manufacturers to evolve and introduce better cars, at least I do.
You want to make money? These new GT3 cars are not the ticket.
None of these cars are blue chip cars (outside of some the hyper cars by these manufacturers).

I have a fairly busy day today, but I'll take the time to go dig up that post you made if you are unable to remember.
Buddy of mine just bought a Huracan Performante and took me for a joyride in it last week. When I asked him if he thought it was faster than the 918 he chuckled and said "no way in hell on the OE tire." He has a 2 RS coming next year, as well.

That's he current problem we have. People on this board think cars are not supposed to depreciate.

Your signature shows that you like depreciating cars

Nope- not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is that some depreciate more than others. Mclaren 650s which had a sticker for 350k plus is now selling 18 months later for less than 190k.
cars depreciate - and yes if you buy them as investments that is stupid. But Mclaren takes it to a whole new level. I happen to like the 720 but no way in hell I’d buy it New. The 720 LT will come out- they already announced it- and that makes my almost 400k car drop in value like a rock.
I can handle depreciation but why would I knowingly subject myself to that kind of loss for no reason. Wait 12-18 months and buy it at a discount. In the meanwhile- drive one of the other latest and greatest cars out there.
their business model is screwed up. Stop announcing the replacement before your current model is even delivered.

I don't think their business model is wrong - they're a very new company and they need to innovate to get people's attention. I own a 570S and have no regrets - not worried about depreciation on the 720S more it just didn't give me the emotional response where I got out thinking I needed to have one. It was more of a this thing is just too stupidly fast for the street - I struggle to see the point.
