If the detuned 4 liter turns out to be true in the next GT4 that would be amazing

Thanks for posting. Am a bit confused on the engine based on this quote from the article:

will have a 4.0-litre flat six engine, according to a well-informed source close to the factory. It will not be the same 4.0-litre engine that's found in the current GT3 RS and 911 R, but an evolution capable of producing "at least" the same 500bhp and up from the 475bhp of the last ‘standard’ GT3.

Would want the same basic engine design as what will be racing in the new RSR this year. The GT road cars used to share the same basic engine. I'm confused in what is running in the new GT3R, RSR and the road cars!

"Evolution". Same engine as the others but change in oiling architecture.

Agreed the verbiage is off kilter.. I wonder if they are alluding to the changes indicated by Macca, in the Engine threads.. (new oiling, dlc coating, etc)

Also no mention of 991 RS.2.
The 4.0 kinda seals the deal.
Could the late switch to a 4.0 from the 3.8 be b/c they aren't doing an RS.2?

in the last 997 era, the gt3.2 and the 3rs.2 shared the same 3.8L engine...

    Rosenbergendo: Makes sense.

TheMissle: Yes, but they both stepped up from the 3.6 at the same time. Would .2GT3RS use a 4.0L like .1RS? That would be odd, no?

It would make more sense if the GT4RS gets the 991.1 GTS engine tuned to 430-450HP. That was a great and reliable engine. I just don't see them dropping a 4.0 from the 991.2 GT3 in it even if its detuned.

Wonder if they still make it? Agree that it would be a good engine for the car. But, IMO not very likely.

If this stuff is true, sounds like the new GT3 will be very desirable (more power than RS and R, faster than both, more durable/reliable engine, less cost than each); valuations on the RS and R will come back to earth, and 991.1 GT3 will see a substantial increment of depreciation.

GT4 RS with more power, PDK, and better track tuning out of the box would also be very cool.

Porsche Motorsport division's biggest competition appears to be the "regular" Porsches!

"Two other GT models will beat it into showrooms, though. Porsche’s development driver and brand ambassador Walter Rohrl confirmed to Auto Express that the facelifted 911 GT3 will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox, and is expected to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this March. "
      Autoexpress

that should put those rumors about the GT3 not coming for Geneva to rest
