Right - important to account for BTG (Bridge to Gate) lap here vs. full lap in Sport Auto vid of GT R. Even this very fast BTG lap is considerably slower than Porsche's official time of 7:25 for GT3 full lap.

I wouldn't buy that MB for the looks alone.

GT2RS is what needs to be compared to all these turbo cars. The 997 ran 2:18 years ago....so trust me, on a cold day, with tire warmers, the 991 GT2RS is going to outrun the MB and virtually any production car on the N-ring.

It's going to be a monster, so the days of comparing the specs and lap times of the GT3/RS to all the other range topping turbo cars is pretty much over.

Of course the GT2 RS will be faster, but let's be fair to the AMG whose price is between the GT3 and GT3 RS (which it beat by 17 sec) - nowhere near the GT2 RS price...

+1. No coincidence that their street cars have gotten better since they began GT3 racing.

Yep. It's an astonishing time for the price of the car, especially considering it's not a track bargain but more of a luxurious GT. And there is a good chance it's NOT going to be one of those N-ring times that go in stark contrast with how customer cars perform - after all, the base version (S) is showing pretty good times too.

That AMG is quick no doubt but that exhaust note? Awful.

That lap is a press car in skilled but non-factory hands; the factory car in a factory GT3 driver's hands would be even faster.

Unfortunately these days, many times the Ring time and 0-60 MPH sell sport cars, not how the car " feels " getting you there.
WOW,without modesty, the above phrase should be a quote somewhere...
Now I'm a big fan of AMG cars,I've owned one and they are great. I've always seen them as the European " muscle car ". The new Turbo engines make lots of power and sound incredible! Many people buy them as part of a collection, where one is fortunate enough to get a different taste of a large variety of flavors. That's just a great situation to be in! But I think this car should be compared as a direct replacement to a Porsche or a McLaren...or any other sports car capable of achieving this level of performance. Right there it is lacking IMO : to me,the recipe will always be very simple-a very light car, rear wheel drive,as involving as possible(ideally with a manual transmission-but if automatic,at least make it feel very very special),with a Naturally Aspirated high revving engine(this is key IMO),a great suspension, great steering and some of the best brakes in the business.
When all of the above are met,the 0-60 and Ring times become numbers on a paper for people into statistics.

I am definitely a member of the subjective feel and involvement club, but if one number means more than all the rest to me, it's the Ring time (since it reflects so many aspects of objective performance).

And it's also a place I'd hope to drive any new European acquisition...

Hey Grant, the last time I was at the Ring, the Ring asked for you - you are obviously missed!

The Ring is a wonderful place,so much history behind it! I am sure I'll drive it someday,I know I'd love to! But it's certainly not " the end-all " when it comes to car performance IMO. It's been made " the standard ",but it would probably be the last thing I'd look at when I want to know how a car performs. I will never get to that level of driving in order to achieve times the professionals are doing with a certain car and bragging rights mean absolutely zero to me! Now there are guys who live at the Ring and can hope to achieve that level, but I will never understand how that works for some : I mean,if you have to run a business,or have a job, have a family, how can you possibly spin at the Ring all day?! How do you pay for gas and tires while keeping the wife happy?!
