If you had just one car then the TTS would be pretty good. The OP is a driver, not a poseur, and he has other cars. Pretty sure the TTS would bore him to death.

Not to get off topic but what are your thoughts on the 997 Turbo? 1st Gen...

I drove one on a straight highway (not ideal) but couldn't wait to get back in my 997S - i'm told they have to be "woken up" with mods - always considered one down the road.

"Most boring car ever"? I suppose you have your opinion. The man asked about a car that was great on back roads and good for long distance road trips. I've done a lot of both in all my cars and I think the TTS is prepared for just about anything, especially things like that. You can take that car in nearly any condition and it will out perform just about any car out there in conditions like he was asking about. I wouldn't tell him to buy it new either. Let someone else take that hit. Many options that people have spoken of are great, but IMHO the TTS is the best of both worlds and it will also haul a set of golf clubs for you if you so desire while you have a coffee in your hand too..

I'm looking around too for other options. I've entertained the thought of getting most of the option mentioned in this thread, and still am. But very recently I came across a a quirky one that might be interesting, yet hasn't been posted here I think.

So how about the 2017 Lotus Exige Sport 380 ?

Many people here have the ability to own several sports cars. Some have the ability to own a track focused car like a GT3 and a sporty daily driver like a 991 Turbo/570, etc.

I also noticed that these same people love the latest and greatest and have the financial means to cycle through cars.

What's gonna happen in 10 years when there is no more manual or NA and these people still have the itch to get the latest and greatest?

Will all of us just accept that turbo and PDK is the latest and greatest and support whatever new cars are being produced, while of course hanging on to their 997 GT3, etc?

This is the reason Mooty is right.

Don't know for how long we will be allowed to drive these cars.
Sign up for as many track days as you can. They will all be museum pieces and worthless as cars sooner than we think.

If by 'sooner than we think' you mean 'long after everyone posting in this thread is dead and buried', then I'd say you're right on.

Let's go back to this thread in 10
Years and see if you will be allowed to drive a non electric car in a big city. 😉

Lotus Exige isn't being discussed because they aren't street legal in the US. And won't be until the next gen Exige is launched 2-3 years (?) from now. And also because an Exige isn't what the OP would be interested in...

I think we'll be allowed to drive non electrics longer than you think -- except with the penalty of a carbon/gas tax.

If i were looking for another car i would want something very different from my GT3. For example, maybe a 240Z or first gen Z/28. There isn't a car out there for twice the money that i feel could significantly improve upon my GT3. I would be looking for something different, not better.
