Yeah that would be quick, but sub 8 in this case

yes. Brakes will be a little cheaper, but it's really about tires. I can throw a set of 18" Hoosiers on the Cayman. I was burning through a set of $2000 MPSC2 tires in sometimes as quick as 3 track days. When I do 24 days a year, it adds up. Not to mention the car is about 50% less expensive and I had a loan on it. So, a pretty big savings.

As as for the M2, I really did consider it. I think actually the Grand Tour episode sealed the Cayman S for me. It's just in a different league of speed. Not to mention the interior can be optioned to look much nicer.
Also considered: M3, F-Type, TT-RS, C63. It's kind of a shame Japan doesn't really have a car in this segment. The GTR has long since gone over 100k, the GT86 and Miata are slow, no replacement for the 370z on the horizon, etc

If they come in the right sizes, get some Race Technologies (Brembo) RE-10 pads. They are the most expensive, but last forever...

Also if you want to be economical, maybe use 18" or 19" Bridgestone RE-71R tires instead of Hoosiers - they should be cheaper ($935 for all 4 in stock 19" sizes) and longer lasting.

I also like Nitto NT01 for long-lasting track tires.

I'm seriously thinking of ordering a Cayman 718S also. Drove a Boxster 718S and was very impressed with the low end torque but didn't care much for the the exhaust note so no sport exhaust for me. What are you thinking option wise?

I'm looking at: 2-way Sport seats plus, 20" CS wheels, Sport PASM, SCHRONO, PDK, PTV and possibly power steering plus. $83K

This thread is not making me happy.

I'm considering moving from my Boxster GTS up to a GT3. I'm in mortal fear of it being a horrible decision and missing my Boxster once it's gone.

You people aren't helping.

I meant to say he's done sub 7 BTG with his Schirmer E92 M3, not with this stock M2.
Sorry for confusion.

I love my GT3! Best Porsche I've ever owned from a performance standpoint.

I just want to try something different so I'll be putting it up for sale and ordering the Cayman. I'll probably be the one making the horrible decision!

The only thing you will miss upgrading from the cayman or boxster to a GT3 is the money on your pocket!

A base spec manual 718S for track work makes sense. Absolutely no options IMO. Just buy it base spec and you can add wheels, exhaust and ECU flash latter when the aftermarket have options available. Cheap thrills.

For my sake, I sincerely hope you are making a horrible decision.

That's the thing... mine's not a base model. It's a GTS that I spec'd exactly the way I wanted it. I absolutely love my car. But I didn't buy it with the intention of spending so much time at the track. As I move up through the DE ranks, I feel like a GT car would suit me better. All the drooling over the 911R gives me confidence that I'll probably be happy with the move, but when I get out on a beautiful day with the roof down and the sound of that 3.4L engine making music behind me I can't help but think there can be nothing better.

Sorry to go off on a tangent here. Back to your regularly scheduled discussion...

I've only been without the GT3 for 5 days and miss it dearly. I had to choose. Track time or keep the GT3. I chose the track. Kids are expensive. I will be back in a GT3 or GT4 soon enough.

I was planning to get a GT3 for DEs. I got more into it and took a step further.

I nixed the GT3 idea. Now getting a TT dad-mobile for the street and will do arrive and drive DEs with a rental SPB and build or buy a race car soon. SPC and SPB are looking the most appealing.

Radicals would be another way to go. SR3s are in the neighborhood of $30k. High running cost, but a GT3 isn't cheap either.

For sure all the performance options. I'm still debating the rest. Probably the 2-way Sport Plus seats. Maybe Miami Blue exterior. GT Sport steering wheel. Then all these guys:

Probably still a 90k Cayman S, but way cheaper than the 147k GT3.
