Default Car & Driver Lightning Lap 2016 - 2:47.0 for the RS, 2:47.1 for the Corvette GS

The RS posts a a great time, but the fact that the Corvette GS is essentially tied with the RS is very impressive. The time for the 2015 GT3 was 2:50.4.

Very good lap time. It would be more impressive if the corvette doesn't overheat after few more laps. I was seriously considering a Z06, but the overheating issue on the track turned down the idea.

I assume the NSX time is a typo. They meant 2:50.2?

i have a friend who tracks a 2016 Z06 and he said the over heating issues were primarily with the automatics and not the stick versions. we were at NJMP on a brutally hot day, 100F+ and he had a couple of issues in hottest part of the day - ac shutting down and power steering - there is a fix for the power steering - he now has an additional duct fitted to pipe air to the steering motor. apparently the over heating issues are fixed on the 2017 and can be retrofitted to the 2016s.

Just to clarify things here, the corvette here is grand sport, not Z06. Grand sport has a NA V8 and does not overheat.

How that car with more weight (3500) and less power (455) and manual transmission really performed on par with GT3RS which is substantially lighter, has 50 more horses and PDK is just beyond me. I honestly didnt believe it first, but maybe all the aero and magnaride GS inherited from Z06 is just far superior? I dont know. Feel free to comment.

Z06 lapped VIR at 2:44 flat, that is the second best time 1 second slower than 918 spyder. Z06 wasnt tested this year.

I was not expecting GS to beat 2:50 of GT3 to be honest.

I also heard 2017 Z06 will get a number of cooling improvements, different hood, second radiator, larger super charger housing etc to name a few. Would that cure the overheating? Who knows, we'll see.

I know the Audi R8 is more of gt car, but with 600 horses, it should be faster.

I don't get it either. I was shocked by the lap time of the GS. GT350R beating the lap time of both the M4 GTS, and GT4 is impressive as well.

The MT C7 GS is crushing it @ over $100k less.

The GT3 RS has a DCT and was provided to C&D with no bells and whistles (A/C, Radio, Axle Lift) to save weight.

Different drivers...
Now I'm not exactly a track expert or anything, but are you supposed to go up on every curb? Like the arrows in Mario Kart that give you a speed boost.
Didn't look like the cleanest run in the GT3 RS for the senior editor... not trying to hate and maybe someone will chime in saying he's flawless and I have no clue.

The ARC is four seconds off of the Viper team's dynamics engineer at VIR. Not sure I would take much from the lighting lap other than entertainment.
