Wow, I drove the 911R today!

Thank you for standing up with a contrarian opinion. I'm with you that the 991--as a class--has lost it for me. If only I have the good fortune to find a pair of 4.0RS and GT2RS like you said--those are the contemporary high watermarks and will continue to eclipse the R for some time to come.
That said I think I'll still be douchebag enough to buy the 991.2 RS when it comes out. There's a sea change going on and we're all witnesses to the "tuning out" of the human element in automotive experience...

Well that's a relief to read your review. I was going to head to the dealer and buy one. I guess I'll just stay with my Spyder. :-)

Bingo, if I'm going to spend $250k+ over MSRP it's going to be for a 997 GT3RS 4.0 and not a 991R. But then again I'm the idiot that would drive the car so it would lose 1/2 of its value because of all the miles I'd put on it.
Since so many of the 918 owners in the US are dealer principals, the 991R will be a flipping exercise once their 6 month hold period is up.

You quote me but I never talked about a review...just trust smb with good reputation could express an unbiased opinion, expect also the "underwhelming" is based on a in-depth test even if lasting just a couple of hours...which are more than enough for a good driver to understand a car.
Hope nobody here opens a thread having driven a car on the highway

Value cannot be measured in dollars, only price (and cost) is measured in dollars. Value requires estimations and opinions and is formed through the buyers perspective. The market price would technically be the very last price someone paid for something.
