The anti-flipper club
I see a lot of comments about prices on these cars, and how the flippers are ruining it for the real car guys. Throw in dealer bad behavior and it is obvious we need to form an anti-flipper club.
How might this work? Let's say I can get an RS at MSRP. In 6 months or a year I want to sell it. I offer it up to the club at a fair price (say MSRP). As the first transaction I am now at the top of the list. The next car for sale to the club (say a 911R) I have first dibs on. If I buy it, my name drops down. A point system could be devised to account for how big a discount relative to flipper prices you sold the car to another club member for. These points determine your order on the list, and when you get a car at a steep discount from the club, your name drops down accordingly.
I haven't had my coffee yet, so feel free to tear this idea apart.

I think good dealers could be worked into this, as well. If they offer a car to the club at a fair price, they also earn points they can use when something special comes up. So they get the benefit of selling cars to car guys/non flippers, and have access to other cars below market that they can sell locally.

Your club, like communism, defies the law of human nature. The club will have endless members who have no valuable appreciating automobile assets, but will be willing to take over somebody else’s property. Unfortunately, you will have no members willing to share their good fortune with these great unwashed masses.

Great idea but as long as money has a value it'll never work. It's kind of a socialist idea under it all. It's the American way, good or bad. The issue many of us have has nothing to do with flippers. It's with the hyper exaggerated shortage or simulated rarity of these cars at the moment. That has been created mostly by dealers that sell to shills to then relist the same vehicle at large markups as used cars. Kind of like a ticket scalper...

What happens when the market changes and the cars aren't worth MSRP? It will never work.

I hear what you guys are saying about socialism, etc. and maybe it doesn't work on a large scale. But capitalism is based on self-interest, and selling a car to a club member at a fair price (regardless of market going up or down) gives the seller access to other cars at a fair price, which is in fact all about self-interest.
I am not sure this is anti-capitalism, although on the surface it may appear to be that. We talk about dealers who sell at MSRP all the time. These dealers could sell over MSRP, but they decide the relationships they build with their customer is more important than short-term gain. And that is exactly what this is about. In the long run selling a car to another club member gets you what you want. A chance at a car you might not be able to buy otherwise, or at least not at flipper prices. Doesn't mean MSRP, but just that the price is highly competitive in the marketplace.
Not saying it would work!

I would love to see what would happen if dealer networks were abolished and manufacturers would sell direct to the consumer. Who needs a middle man anyway. Elon Musk has a great plan.

Won't work. Say I get in the club and my car appreciated to $1.3M from the $185k I paid. I am supposed to sell it to the #1 on the club for $185 and forego $1.1M? Forget about it! Great idea though...

So are we saying we shouldn't blame dealers for selling to the highest bidder? Because I don't see a lot of difference.
