718 Cayman production-stuttgart, why?
I know that a few Boxsters are built in Zuffenahusen so the line can stay flexible, 6sod online has a story cayman production is going there too, Im confused, when they cant build enough GT cars to satisfy demands, why bring the cayman over too, or is there a new plant Im not aware of, last time I was there they were doing alot of construction, anyone know? Isn't there still plenty of demand for the GT3RS, i wonder if demand for the GT3 if they built more still exists, and does this mean the 718s are more profitable than 911s?

This allows them to build all sports cars in Zuffenhausen with sedans and suv's being built elsewhere.

currently the sedans and suvs are built in Leipzig, the boxsters and cayman are built in osnabruck and there were a few boxsters built each day in stuttgart, moving the 4 cyl models there will decrease number of 911s unless they add another shift

Right, which is not Zuffenhausen
Porsche is adding model lines going forward (they have ambitious volume targets) and this growth will occur outside Stuttgart for the most part. So maybe Onasbruck (sp?) will have more capacity for additional models without any of the 718 production remaining there.
If the 960 gets greenlit, maybe that will join the other sports cars at Zuffenhausen. Not sure if a Panamera Coupe (928) would stay in Leipzig or join the sports car production in Stuttgart.
The Mission-E will probably happen in Leipzig or Onasbruck.
As for the need to build more GT cars, not sure if Zuffenhausen is already at capacity or not and do not know if there are plans to increase capacity (they have been adding more there recently).

i guess Im just confused, I've heard that one of the reasons 911s cost so much is the cost of building them in Stuttgart with limited factory capacity, I thought there were already 2 shifts working there, so I wonder if these means 718s are more profitable and if so how does this affect 911s? and Im especially worried about GT models, although nobody apparently knows what the real scoop is on how much they make on which cars

GT production capacity and demand are sadly, if past and current experience is any guide, not at all related. PAG chooses to limit (or more accurately)
distribute the total production of the line across all the model variants,
including GT and *cup* (but not RSR) cars ... the production numbers of
the GT variants have always been artificially limited well below market
demand ... and will continue to be so, you only have to look at the 911R
for an example of that!

^^ in other words, the capacity is there. What & how many they choose to make is a different story
Larry, how many cars roll off that line again in a day?? I forget

# if you assume 240 production days a year (5 weekdays, - 4 wks annual
factory holiday in August)

A lot of construction at Zuffenhausen right now. Some thought that was work in preparation for the Mission E, maybe to expand capacity for 718. Who knows. Agree with Larry, there is no GT production bottleneck, all self-imposed by PAG.

By the way, I think moving production of the 718 is somewhat of a marketing ploy to more "legitimize" the 4cy turbos models.
Who on earth could be happy with a 4cy??
