I am extremely interested in this car but I want to make sure I am not making a huge mistake based on what I am reading in these threads. There is such a large market of available, low mileage, gt3s available. I'd very much appreciate every one's opinions before I jump into this purchase.

Op, sorry for high jacking. Congrats on the engine.
Thanks,
Jason
We are following almost the same path, sold my E90 with 42K, and went to an X5M, followed by an F80, to the current '14 C2S, and just started looking at the GT3. The issues with the E/F series motors make me pause, but that is what the warranty is for. Maybe I'll just have to wait for the right '16 to come along, or for a car that has had an engine swap, if the price is right.

Yes, it seems to be a common route! I have decided that looking at 2014s might not be the smartest decision also. Looking at 15's now. There is another thread posted regarding the possible lack of Porsche CPO on 14s and difficulty in obtaining an aftermarket warranty. I am really wanting the GT3 but not wanting the same "ticking time bomb" feeling I was getting in the E90. It detracted from the ownership experience a great deal. Interested to hear your progress.

My local dealer (Leith Porsche) has a CPO '14 in their showroom, and I've watched the price drop about 10k in the past few months. Unfortunately, it has sofa seats, and that is the one thing I will not compromise on when I do get a GT3.

Agreed. Hard to go back down from current 14 ways in my C4S. I have been watching that one as well.

I wonder how much of the original motors that were swapped at launch are now showing up in the rebuilt replacement engines that are being delivered?

Folks, this is one club to which I would have hoped to not been given membership, but alas, I have 2015 F engine (August 2014 build and Nov 2014 delivery). My car is primarily for DEs but I run it bone stock (MPSP2 and de minimus adjustments to alignment and camber – no suspension work, etc). It has ~12,500 miles and I have it tech'd by my dealer before every DE. I am OCD about maintenance.

Last Sunday I was at Pocono and during my third session as I approached just shy of 7700 RPM, I got the dreaded "Reduce Engine Power" message and it went into limp mode. I drifted into the infield and parked behind an access wall so I wouldn't blow the session for others. While I waited for the session to end I turned the car off for a couple of minutes. When i fired it back up, the code was cleared. I pitted and then went back out a few minutes later in the next session. I made it through an easy warm up lap and then went into limp mode on my first real lap in the exact same spot on the track (so roughly same RPM). I limped back to the pits and borrowed an OBDII reader and learned it was a cylinder 5 misfire. I was able to make the two hour drive home after so I was grateful.

I brought the car in to my service mgr and he was able to recreate the code white driving and reaching 8100. They changed coils/plugs as others in this thread did and the problem still persisted with cylinder 5 misfire. They dropped the engine and took it apart to find a scored cylinder and damage to camshaft.

So, still love my GT3 and I can't complain since the car had been bullet proof otherwise and got me home from the track. This said, this is going to seriously impact my goal of reaching 30 track days for the year!

The techs are awaiting parts and I'll let you all know how it works out.

Please keep us up to date on this issue as soon as you hear more from the dealer. I really thought we were safe on the F motors. Nice meeting you this week at Barber! Keeping my fingers crossed for your solution and a speedy repair. Rob

Thanks for the info. I am losing confidence that the F's will be immune...

A scored cylinder will most likely result in a new G engine. A pain to deal with but you do end up with the best engine.

Hello Bart, it seems they're two recalls for the 2015 GT3; spark-plugs & coil packs. Hopefully this helps.

I feel your pain. Been there.

If you have a scored cylinder, you'll likely get a new G engine, as Alan already mentioned.
