991 gt3 engine misfiring / letters
#31
Just picked up my car from the dealer. They said my misfire did not qualify for the bulletin. I spoke with the tech and he said he was instructed to try and replicate the issue by running the car at 7k rpm continuously. He did that and couldn't get it to misfire. He told me only if it happens again will I qualify for the bulletin and they will change the coil and spark plugs. I guess I will just take the car back and drive it hard to see if I can replicate it. I'm registered for PCA at NJMP the last week in June so hopefully all will be well or I can get it to misfire again and will take it from there. That is my update for now.

so what exactly did they do, just cleared the codes? i would get that car up to 9000 rpm and see if it pops on, my tech was able to reproduce the problem immediately after he changed the coil pack with high revs...how high were your revs when the fault came on?

Will that code clear with key cycles or does it require the the Porsche computer to clear?
I'm hoping for you it can then you can drive over the holiday to 8999 rpm!

Woke up this morning and the code was gone. This is so bizarre. Had to run to the supermarket and was shifting at 9k rpm. It was only a short drive so the engine didn't get a chance to get up to high temp but seems weird that it just went away overnight.

There are obvious reliability issues with this 991 GT3 engine. Peak power comes in at ~8200 RPM, the gears are nice and short, why rev it to 9000 so much? Perhaps the redline is placed too high.
When I drove the 991 GT3 for an extended time on the track and in the suburbs of Hockenheim, the guys told me to shift around 8200 or so.

It's usual. The code is still in the log. Don't worry about it, they will see the problem in logs.

Hopefully they will get this sorted out to your satisfaction.
