The way forward for 911 GTs is FI. It's going to happen. AP has already said the 911 GT is about ultimate lap times. I think the next GT2 is going to change some minds.

Agreed. There should still be NA GT3 / RS variants in the 991.2, but the 991.2 GT2 RS will really show the world what Porsche can do. And that'll be critical considering I doubt there will be any NA 992's.

I like the theory that's been thrown around lately--
Porsche will keep the GT3 naturally aspirated (forever) and make it available with PDK-S AND and manual option (forever)
The RS will eventually morph into just an ultimate lap time track car, and will simultaneously be an RS and GT2, basically a monster turbo only, PDK-S only GT2RS that will obliterate ring lap times, and throw down well with the 488 and 650S, all while being the halo car for the entire Porsche lineup, as all other Porsche vehicles will be turbos.
Meanwhile, Porsche will appease their long-time enthusiast drivers by always keeping a NA GT3 around with a manual option (and PDK-S), and they will keep producing a NA manual GT4 as their entry level GT car to bring younger/poorer buyers into the brand.
Sounds like a good marketing strategy to me

agree in general, I just hope it shakes out like the manual issue in that there will be a NA option, just like many people wanted a manual option.

I think the crazy prices that the old air-cooled cars are bringing (as well as Singer and Ruf) is a main supporting argument for cars like the 911R and Driftiing's theory. Porsche wants that part of the market too...

Doesn't completely compute to me. The next GT3 will have to be FI to keep up. They sold the swing towards playstation dynamics and go-fast gizmos as necessary to stay competitive. The GT4 and 911R were for the "purists" who want fun over speed. It would make far more sense for the MA1 GT3 engine to make it's way into the next GT4, and the GT3 to get a 600hp FI motor and possibly AWD. But I guess they are masters at manipulating us - so I really have zero clue.
