How much more of a driving experience can a 911R are deliver over a GT4
So, a close Buddy of mine and I went on a Golf(Guys trip) over the weekend.(If you love golf go to Streamsong -2nd visit). He loves sports cars and him and I always bull**** about them until we are too deep in scotch to make anymore sense. He loves his Aston Martin(which his Wife calls ***-hole Martin- a whole other story) because he just loves the prestige it denotes as he drives to his Country Club or out to dinner. I respect that. It brings him incredible joy, relaxation, and a sense of great success when he takes it out - I am not one to judge so too each their own.
Now - he always gets on me that I can not keep a car for more than a couple years before I jump to the next thing but he understands that I am in search of the perfect driver's car for the street( a Manual a must for me). So, we start talking about the 911R because he reads all the hypes ect
How much more of a driving experience would the 911R provide over your GT4??- he asks me.
Now- he knows I sold my GT3 and have a GT4 arriving in May. I was a little stumped by his question because I had to think about it a little(probably the scotch ). I mean I do not know yet. I have to believe they will both be very good DD. The GT4 you can drive right to the track and give it a go but you probably can do the same in the "R". So, I told him after much thought that the only thing I could tell would be the 911R will have a higher revving and more powerful engine and that would be desirable. But, then he says you will still get passed by a 991 GT3 on the street and a 1/2 dozen other sports cars so what does it matter. But, in the end; power is important. So, I am very happy for all those who get a 911R at MSRP. I think you are nuts if you are paying much over MSRP for no other reason to flip it or collect it and decide later what to do. Especially knowing the 991.2 GT3 will come with a Manual. Yes - I will trade my May GT4 in a year or two for the 991.2 GT3 w/Manual. I will pay the MSRP difference because I want that higher revving more powerful engine with the best looking wing on the market.
But, how much more fun will the 991.2 GT3 deliver to me on the street than the GT4??? I do not know yet. Maybe a GT4 may finally be the answer to my riddle or my sickness will continue

i never have driven a better chassis my whole life until know.
the GT4 is so much fun. you controll it 100% even if you get wicked. and the (lack of) power is one of the main points.
yes. i miss the power a bit. but anytime i´m happy to be able to squeeze it out until the end. and than you are going 100mph backroads and everything is superfine, under control, you rule the car. you are happy. you drive the car - and not the other way around.
i think i will never be able to say this about a 991RS (on backroads). because you get really waaayyy to fast if you drive without excuse 1/0 and at least 80% G-force capacity with this machine.
and if the machine is to good - you dominate maybe times but not your ride.
maybe i can say it also ones about a 991R - onetime in many years and for sure double the amount of ***** needed - but this could fit in your thinking.
on the GT4 is the engine the limit.
on the 991R the chassis/tires/downforce.
on the 991RS the driver.

I am not an R fan
as you know the R 50th anniversary
was a missed opportunity to do a spectacular job
using a low weight ultra fun gearbox I. e. from Ricardo
so fingers crossed for the 100th anniversary
but to answer the thread question

several years ago, after discussing cars with a lot of car guys across a variety of brands and noticed significant biases toward one brand vs another, RWD vs AWD, NA vs FI, 911 VS cayman etc I decided that I am going to judge for myself .So, over the past several years I managed to own and try a variety of cars across the spectrum and I don't regret it for a second. It has been a very nice experience and gave me an in-depth knowledge that I wouldn't have acquired otherwise. Of course, there are financial limitations and in some cases availability like in the case of 911R. My point is they are all different, some more than others, if you can do it, don't hesitate
