The transission from the 997 to the 991 was about as great a shock to the PorschePhile could have taken, besides of course the 993 to 996 turnoved!
But coming into the 991 some people flipped, but how long did the howling come on for(?) a month if that? Because we all know we were moving forward and the 991 was a major leap forward. Once again Porsche did more with less. Less horsepower than it's rivals but there has to be something said about the evolution of the 911 and it's transaxle and powertrain. Making cars go faster and in more comfort with less power.
With that I could see from the artist representation Porsche MOVING Forward with a car as such. But I think Porsche and the rest of the performance car consumer's that we will probably be locked in at wheels/tires no larger than 20 inches up front and 21 inches in the rear. With wheels getting any larger than that it's just a simple equation of Greater Loss on Return. Wheels will continue to get heavier and thus must be made from lighter metals and materials such as the PCCBs are made now to decrease centrifugal forces quicker to enter corners quicker just to get back on the gas again quicker. So just like the pictures Chip Foose draws on Overhaulin or that Kindig(it) dude the wheels look much bigger than they intend them to be. But I doubt we will see 26 inch wheels in 5 years or 20 years.
But as discussed earlier with the Retro bits to pay homage to the mega monster cars of the past... Porsche could very easily make a 959 Tail for the next 911 and make it tasteful looking too.

other than the cabin being a little squashed which is most likely just the cartoonish effect of being animated, I really like how it looks! It's immediately recognizable as a 911 and show's that Porsche while embraces the past and it's heritage, is also forward thinking. Infact, I actually really liked the 996 when it was considered such a huge departure from the 993 and past 911's even though many consider it ugly. Infact, even though I didn't like the fried egg headlights being shared with the Boxster, I didn't think they were all that bad, especially with the clear turn signals. I did feel the turbo style 996 headlights that were on the Turbo and the 996.2 911's were much nicer and actually really cool. I also embraced the return of the round headlights of the 997. I'll also admit, I've been critical of certain aspects of design cues that I thought Porsche could have done better, for example, I really wish they'd have stayed with the horizontal slats on the decklid of the 991.2, as I think the vertical slats just look weird. But each iteration has it's own character and we will all have our own preferences to which have better styling. I guess what I'm saying is, each gen of 911 is special in it's own right and all should be embraced so long as they stay true to the spirit of what makes a 911.

The 992 is coming and Porsche can't please everyone.
I suspect the following:
1. official photos of 992 are released and everyone complains that the 991 looks better
2. someone sees the car in person and states that it looks much better in the flesh
3. 992s hit the dealer showrooms and everyone agrees that it's better looking than the 991
4. same viscous cycle starts in anticipation for the GT3 variant, then RS, then R and 992.2

6. A number of tabbies when realising they can t get one, will tear their hair out
because of the lost analog involvement but suddenly a 992 R will be there

I'm in as well. I'll give it a 9/10.
Back in the 997 era, I couldn't imagine how they could improve on that, and they did. Here we are again...interesting times ahead!
