Default .1 to .2 price drop

I wasn't part of the Porsche world in the time between when the .1 and .2 997 GT cars came out. I'm hoping some of you can educate me on how severely the .1 GT3 and RS prices were affected by the .2 GT cars, when they came out?

My situation is that I have and love my 991.1 GT3. However, I want to get a 991.2 GT3, as it may be the last NA GT3, or simply the last GT3, based on APs recent comments on maybe doing away with the GT3.

I plan to get a 991.2 GT3 if it comes with a 4.0L NA engine, and I'm 85% sure the 4.0L engine will happen. If the .2 GT3 doesn't get a 4.0L engine, then I will stick with my .1 GT3.
I have a confirmed .2 GT3 allocation from a prominent Porsche dealer in the first six months of production of the .2 GT3. My questions are these-

How severely do you expect the .2 GT3 to depress prices of the .1 GT3?

How severely do you expect .1 GT3 prices to be reduced
1- when the .2 GT3 is announced?
2- during early production/delivery of the .2 GT3? (First six months)
3- during mid-production of the .2 GT3? (From 6 months to 18 months of production)

Thanks for your thoughts.

this answers can´t be given without details about the 991.2:
i for example still stuck with 991.2 will be turbo.

AP is paid to develop AND to sell cars - he is good (i guess also their best) marketing guy - if he would tell now that 991.2 will not stay N/A - not so many pre-contracts would be signed...

Even if 991.2 gets 4.0l NA it won't rev to 9000rpm and thus 991.1 will be the only 911 revving that high. That would make it collectors car in the future ( provided that not all engines would blow off by that time )

Default 997 prices

Back in 2009, 997.1 values dropped significantly due to the 997.2 is a much improved car. 3.8 engine, revised style and as fast as a 996 cup car on the track. Everyone is flipping their 997.1 to 997.2, so prices got down to 60-70 from solid 90 back then.

Attached is the article Chris Harris talked about 997 GT3 prices, and also his 997.1 trade in experience: https://grrc.goodwood.com/road/news/...u1cwyOykvEm.97

"This situation seems a little odd to a chap who lost the thick end of £10k in one year on a 997 GT3 gen 1 between spring 2010 and 2011. The cars were still quite pricey back then – I think I paid mid-60s for mine and, when I needed to trade it in against a new GT3, the trade bid was depressingly low. The model was less desirable than the 3.8-litre, second generation car, and everyone knew there was a new GT3 lurking in the wings."

I really think the timing is not when the new version is announced but when the new version's content is announced. ie: hp estimates, redline,
Weight, cost etc.

The best thing for the 991.1GT3 value would be if the msrp for the new car was more expensive.

and there i think will happen a massive increase.
my guess: +10 till +15% on the listprice.

997.1 GT3 prices dropped in 2009-2010 because the economy was in the crapper, and like the rest of the desirable car market, prices have been strong since.

The economy will have a greater bearing on future GT3 prices of all generations than any incremental changes - and they will be incremental based on information volunteered by AP at RRV. I bet the 991.2 will retain its 3.8 and 9k red line.

Since we are all speculating and no one knows, .1 used prices will drop drastically well below MSRP where they are now. Everyone will want the .2 because that is who buys P cars the people that always have to get the latest and greatest. Details will not matter. Everyone will (already) have their deposits down at 15 different dealers to try and get and flip this latest version. I can't wait. Paitence will pay off and I will finally get a GT3 at a respectable price.

I am sticking with my opinion: 991.2 GT3 goes turbo and no manual transmission - or no 991.2 GT3 at all. In this case, 991.2 GT2 and 991.2 GT2 RS only.

In both scenarios, the 991.1 GT3 should hold value pretty well.

Price starts dropping as soon as info about the .2 Is released. Won't stabilize or go up until production of .2 stops and prices go up, pulling everything below it along.. This is when there is no GT3 to be bought new and the wait is for the 992.

Throw in a market collapse this or next year and we have an exact repeat of 2007-2012.

As most have stated the.1 gt3 will only have a chance to remain strong $$$ wise if the next (if there even is a next) 3 is not NA and pdk s. The fact that the next engine could possibly go to 4.0, (which I believe will) but not a 9K rpm will not hurt current .1 3 values. We are in for some interesting times in the next 3 - 5 years.

.1 owners should sell their cars now because when .2 comes out the .1 value will drop SIGNIFICANTLY and I would do it quickly since 2018 is right around the corner.

It might be the best time to sell GT3/GT3RS now if to maximize the profit. But you lose the enjoyment for 2 years(maybe even more considering the wait time). And there's no many alternative, plus other cars depreciate even faster...

So why not keep it and enjoy it?
