I had the 3RS and it wasn't the sound that was an issue although it is no where as good as the 2RS but it was the lack of power. When I rung out the 3RS I was waiting for the payoff that never came.

I only have 50 miles on my 2RS because of non-stop snow storms, but this pretty much sums up my 3RS after driving the 2RS. It just seems to take an eternity to get to 9k rpms now and there is all this sound and show with it that just doesn't pack a punch. I feel bad even saying that because the 3RS is so good and I've enjoyed that car, but the 2RS may have taken its place in my heart.

Wow those are some pretty compelling comments. I love hearing the observations of people who actually own both the 3RS and 2RS.

@thegoat, that is exactly right, and if anyone is interested I posted a video by Shmee150 and if you're not disposed to watch the entire video start at 7:08 where he discusses his concerns about the GT3 and it's power or lack thereof, and that pretty much sums up the way I feel about the GT3-RS which is only 20hp more than the GT3. If I couldn't afford a GT2 then I would go with the GT3 and not even bother spending the extra money for the 3RS because it wouldn't be worth it, at least not for me.

Completely agree. Additionally, the 9,000 rpm WOT on the 991.1 GT3 sounded very similar if not same as the 991.2 GT3RS.

Some advice for newbie’s and this is advice coming from a newbie don’t overextend yourself to buy these cars. If you can afford them buy them and have a great time but if you can’t they're not worth it because when it comes right down to it all these GT cars are just cars, Porsches true, but just cars.
Additionally, there is allot of great information on this forum and I have learned allot, and clearly have allot more to learn but, take everything that is written with a grain of salt. There are people on this forum with ulterior motives........some are sales people that will try to steer the conversation a particular way and there is a very small but vocal minority of people on this forum that are not high quality people…..I call them haters that are down right miserable sorts. In fact, I often chuckle at some of the negative comments and think boy how can these people afford these cars they have such an unsuccessful attitude………........This site should be about, and primarily is about, sharing experiences, knowledge and enthusiasm for a great hobby. I guess when it comes down to it, for some people, not even a great car like a Porsche can make them happy.
Lastly, let me extend my apologies for going off topic.

That is seriously funny.

Sound is highly subjective. I love everything about my 2RS and appreciate the efforts of the engineers in improving the exhaust volume and sound quality on the car, but don't enjoy the sound nearly as much as the NA GT3 (with either center or side deletes). The 488, for example, sounds significantly better than the 2RS to my ears. A 9000k PDK shift in a gt3RS is one of those experiences that I wish for any true car guy.

My dealer said that the mag wheels do not qualify for the protection package...

Yes, "Redline: 7,200 rpm (rev limiter 7,800 rpm)".

I have a question for the group........Is the 2RS on a 6/8 year build cycle typically or is "typically" an inappropriate word when it comes to Porsche?

Yup my dealer told me their vendor wouldn't apply the rim protection package on my GT2RS mag wheels. The wheels by itself is too costly to replace from what I was told.

Drive safe,

I have a 720s and a GT2RS. Both very different and great in their own way. I use the 720s as my touring car since it is very comfortable and handles like a dream with incredible power. Passing speed on the highway is crazy. Track performance is spectacular. The GT2RS is purpose built for the track. Incredible driver feedback and very precise steering. I haven't had enough seat time to accurately compare on-track performance. With my 7/10 ths driving style and prior ownership of a .1 GT3, I expect that I will be marginally faster in the GT2RS but I am never out to post lap times, only be safe and have fun instead of speeding around town. It is an incredibly quick car. I have never driven a 488 so I cannot comment on that one but rarely if ever do I see one at the track. The one time I did, the guy should have been in the A or B group with an instructor because he clearly had no familiarity with the car. Too bad in a way.
