Not including the roll cage is one thing - even though BMW seems to have sorted it - but not including factory installed mounting plates is indefensible and outright dangerous.

Not installing the plates is mickey mouse because most that install a cage will use sub-optimal mounting points such as seat belt mounting bolt.

Not installing the plates is probably done for some combination of (1) extreme aversion to liability (ie, how can you sue Porsche because you bumped your noggin on a rollbar that you had to tear up carpet and weld inside the car to install) and (2) culture (I don't think they expect people to circumvent their intent and weld in plates anyway after delivery).
This.
In their defence the North American cars are not designed to have the cage in the first place.
The Feds can't go after them.
Had they left the reinforcements on the body while omitting the cage, then it would be a no brainer to just order the parts and reinstalling them, side stepping the Feds and became liable to future lawsuits.
This is not Porsche's fault that DoT left an ancient clause in their regulations about unpadded surfaces inside a car in case a unbelted occupant hits it during a collision.

In regards to 3.8L Ricardo Design Engine: it is not and was not a street car engine. It was a Prototype engine from the glory days that in period made 800+HP.
Equivalent to 962C, CLK-GTR, type cars.

Even if all the 918 owners kept their cars, the VIP program only covers 330 cars max. As the VIP program only appears in the US and Canada. So even for the highly contested 911R, there were at least 661 cars that went to non-VIP program buyers.
For RoW without VIP program, the selling dealers are the one deciding who gets a car.
In Canada, the VIP program runs differently than in the US, there is no 3/10 year period, the moment one sells their 918 the first dib privilege is gone, from memory there should only be about 15 left of out the initial 30, and there actually isn't 30 to start with, a few bought 2 cars, and one burnt down his not long after taking delivery.
In the US, they have this 3/10 year period, and the first cars are just coming up on 3 years ownerships, majority are still not there yet. For those that sell before 3 years but after 6 months, they get 3 years after their selling date, these guys are still in the program. But the VIP program also kicked out a bunch of people for abusing the program, and the current count is somewhere close to 250.
Basically, for any given Porsche specialty cars, only like 265 is already spoken for, while the rest is controlled by greedy dealers to flip.

They're essentially telling NA buyers that our GTs are for show, and to go buy a CS or Cup if we want to take it on the track.

Its apparent my broker lied to me about selling a contract. And if you 918 owners don't even know about it which I was told by my local dealership earlier. Porsche is probably just laughing at all the people going nuts over this car to see how many they can sell.

Walliser and I had extensive talk about the cage. Porsche will not mickey mouse it's way around US laws like BMW did with the roll cage.
BUT, now is the chance for you Americans to finally have a say.
DoT needs to repeal quite a few laws in order to pass the truck speed limiter law, they need to review existing ones and repeals the outdated and pointless laws first.
Write to your Congressman and suggest repeal the relevant laws concerning the roll cage's safety.

I agree with Nizer, Porsche removing the mounts is indefensible and says to the market they'd rather have customers hurt themselves than potentially increase their liability.
Is it time for a Petition? Pad the cage, get us to sign something, do what you've gotta do PAG. BMW is showing you up and slowly stealing your faithful.
