1,500kg makes this *the fattest* RS ever to leave Zuffenhausen.
By now I hardly see Andreas Preuninger as a car guy. He's Chief Marketing Officer first and foremost. Whatever hype corporate wants him to stir up, he'll oblige. Remember what he said about:
1. Engines... "godlike" 4.0 in the 997, "best ever" 991.1... now the "unreal" 991.2? (cue one simple word: "progress")
2. Paddles in GT cars... "grannies"... then an about-face with paddles not detracting from "engagement"... followed within months by the "purist" 991R, evidently under consideration when he gave those 991.1 interviews...
3. 981 GT4 "not held back" in its potential... that an "RS isn't contemplated"... first statement is self-evident to anyone who's driven the GT4... as to the RS, time will be a cruel judge.
The list of AP head-fakes goes on and on.
None of that's meant to diminish the virtues of this coming car. I'm just disheartened by how PAG is going about their sales. Indulgence in superlatives. Superficial appeal to emotions. Guys who regularly buy $200/300k cars are generally intelligent about their purchase decisions. Unless AP's target audience are dimwits with the memory of a goldfish, hype and half-truths won't do him or the brand service. Let the products speak for themselves.
I can't wait to see how he's gonna spin the end-of-run-stick-shift-special-RS that will inevitably come when corporate gives the orders to clear out their 991 tubs.
