correct and they are terrible at it! You must have a helmet blower system to not drop dead in that oven on hot days

This beast is going to kill everything on track save full blown racecars.

I'm not aware of the details, but I think shift speed is even faster than before and they have reduced/eliminated the artificial surge when upshifting in PDK Sport mode (now that mode just raises the shift points, afaik)

If so, that kinda sucks. I like the surge.

I'm not sure the surge was artificial. You were just making an instant change into a higher power part of the rev range. If there's less of a surge now it must be because the power hasn't tailed off quite so much at 9k. I assume we're talking about GT3 because GT2 doesn't have PDK (yet).

It was artificial in the sense that they purposely avoided seemless rev-matching in favor of additional revs that produced a more "dramatic feeling" perhaps to appease those used to previous manual GT3's. The new seemless version clearly isn't foregoing performance from the laptimes, so it's safe to assume that the surge was there to make an impression of sportiness more than for purposes of speed. Yes, referring to GT3...

I don't think it related to the power curve of the new motor, as the previous pdk-s didn't have the surge when not in PDK Sport mode...

I contend that there is exactly the same shift and surge in PDK normal and S mode assuming both shifts made at same rpm of course. Sadly I no longer have the car so can anyone offer a second opinion to settle this?

I concur with Gravs. The technical manual for the 991.1 GT3 claimed this as "lightening shift". It's algorithm based. There was mention in a 991.2 GT3 article that the programming had changed to make the car feel more "emotional". After close observation ohms the numerous videos just released including Chris Harris this week my conclusion is the changes are subtle. The upshift points seem a little less "neck snapping" and the downshift points seem a little less "flared". I for one always felt the downshifts lacked a little aural drama on the 991.1 GT3 and could have benefitted by being closer to the GT4 "blip on downshift"

All this talk about 911R value and bashing has gotten really old. Who wants to talk about the active aero and the new braking system on the GT2RS??

I have a friend, excellent driver, who put a 991 into the wall due to a violent full auto PDK upshift in the wet with TC off. I saw video- no way I could have caught it. I suspect emotion was trumped by practicality with the change here- violent should be fractionally faster and more involving, but you need to decide: do you want the car to be fully usable with all systems off or not?
