Default GT3 RS vs. GT3 in a Half-Mile Drag Race

This Saturday, Shift-S3ctor hosted their first Exotic Airstrip Attack at the Coalinga Airport.

Yes, I know our cars aren't meant to be straightline cars, but hell, it was a fun event put on by some great people.

I was able to race a GT3 RS in my GT3. My car is stock and I believe the RS has a bypass.

Both cars had a passenger. Unfortunately, we couldn't do another run.

Here's the vid:

Cool vid thanks for posting. The RS's extra hp and lightweight definitely gave him the jump, but you could see right at the end where the added aero was becoming a disadvantage. Now as we all know, that added aero is an advantage on the track where higher theoretical corner speeds could be achieved. But it was interesting to actually see it come into play here. My guess had it been a mile rather than a half a mile, you'd have reeled him in completely and probably put a car or car and a half on him.

incase you guys couldn't see the vid (don't use the youtube tags, they don't work, just post the direct link in the comments)

We did that already during the Winterfest at Sebring , notice that the trackcar RS took off before I did but the distance between the 2 cars remained constant to the end.

Nothing surprising here. I would only expect the RS to have maybe a car length advantage. The numbers are so close and they will both put down power very similarly

I expected it to be close. Drag a big issue.

i don't know why i keep hearing "our cars are not for dragging" "our cars are not to go in a straight line"

by "our cars" i mean 991 GT3. A car that does the 1/4 mile in low 11s (11.3) and does the 0-60 in 3.1 by all means is not slow for a "straight line"

considering it does all the above stock then i am very impressed with the straight line performance

The company i work for is called SATCO (www.satco.sa) in case you are curious ... now back to the point launch control is in the car i am assuming to be used and for that reason

My daily driver also has launch control. Many cars have launch control today, even a Tesla has an "insane" mode.

My point is the GT3 stock by all means is no slow car in a straight line

Just tried with my buddy.. Gt3rs vs gt3, rolling 2nd gear, 5000rpm, both cars same mileage, RS actually gains half a car till 180-200kmh, then the distance is constant till ~230/240..

Also tried in 1st, but doesnt count since both cars were spinning... We'll take videos this weekend in better conditions.

The 991 GT3 is not slow by any means. I would classify it as pretty darn quick but it it is not built to drag but your point is very valid for striight line performance.

Totally agreed. Thanks for posting the vid.

My best speed at the end of the 1/2 was 149.3. However, it was pretty consistent throughout the day going from 148.4 - 149.3 during each run (with and without a passenger).

As for the other comments regarding straight line performance, I agree. Everyone discounts this car having straight line speed, but I was very impressed by it after this weekend (I had already taken it to a drag strip for some quarter mile runs).

My car put down better trap speeds than two Nismo GT-R's (they were doing 146's), modded C63 AMG's, C6 Z06's, M5's, etc. Definitely not a slouch.
