I'd just graduated college, was driving a used '69 Plymouth GTX, and had begun a job that paid about $250 a week. A new $15K Porsche RS wasn't exactly on my radar in 1973.

Old people....

I have a 1970 Autoweek, back then the classified section was where you found cool sports cars and race cars-in this issue Sam Posey's 'Cuda Trans Am car is for sale for example. Lots of Ferraris and Jags, but just two 911S listed for sale. So it seems like back then you still needed to know the secret hand shake...

I was humming around with my Mazda RX3 rotary engine backfiring, scaring everyone and had no idea what an RS was back in 1981

Talking

I remember distinctly the process of purchasing a RS in 1973. After having Higgins, my major-domo, make the appropriate calls I decided that I shall have a 1973 RS. Higgins handled everything. He always does, good man.

I believe it was Jeeves that I sent to bring the procured automobile back to the stable.

At least that is how the "old people" used to do it.

1973 just graduated high school and driving a used 1970 Mercury Cyclone GT, then I saw a 911 Turbo in Ithaca NY...that changed everything.

Man, I am 40 not young by any means but take offense to your ignorant "old people" comment. Almost typical with pdk, it enables a new breed of GT3 owner. If the 991gt3/RS was manual only you probably would not be here and a few others as well.

be offended, its what is changing America to a PC hellhole, all those offended people, BTW, I can drive stick shift, my other car has it, I can also heel toe double clutch downshift, in a G-modell 911, and once Hurley Haywood said "thats pretty good" when i downshifted a 996 (if you ever done Porsche Driving Experience w/him you'll know thats a compliment from him and rare) if you really want to be offended try the 996 GT2 board and read my fried eggs headlights post

Dude, STFU and move on with your BS! You don't need to try and prove anything, this is the Internet. You probably have a hard time saying please and thank you as well. Go stroke your ego elsewhere, no one here is trying to be pc.

Listen to me, young whipper snapper!

If you were in the US, it was harder back in 1972
& 1973 to get a MY1973 911 RS than a .1 991
gt3 RS today! They were not sold here new.
One could import them for competition purposes
only (they could not be register for road use in US).
And yes, Porsche initially estimated a limited
demand for the '73 RS & proposed building only
500 to meet Group 4 Special GT homologation.
Although demand for this stripped model at first
was 'weak', it suddenly started to 'take off' &
eventually nearly 1,600 units (1560 or 1580)
were built, with the majority coming with the
'Touring Package'.

Ten years after the its introduction, I was
working in NYC & a member of the NNJ
PCA Region. I heard there of someone
that was bringing in 'grey market' 1973
911 RS that originally were sold new in
Italy. I called the guy & set up a meeting
& test ride. The car was a beautiful 'Orange'
Touring example. The seller wanted $25K
for it. I passed on it because I thought it
was too 'noisy', due to its rather sparse
factory-applied insulation. Go figure.

Now, from the vantage view at my Carmel
assisted-living senior home, I wish I would
have pulled the trigger. I could sell it now
and make enough capital gains to pay for
my 'Depends'...and a lifetime supply of the
finest Islay Single Malt Scotch!

Saludos,
Eduardo
Carmel
