Fair enough. But the testing data we were shown supports PAG's contention that the problem is in fact fixed. I believe them, and they have given me no reason not to. But you can believe what you want.

So they completely fixed the problem lately but keep giving old engines for replacements?

Sounds very strange. But who can possibly doubt testing data shown by Volkswagen.

BTW, I prefer to look at the glass as half full, not half empty. If Porsche wants to give me a new engine in a year or two (or 5), I am fine with that. This is a high performance engine. Who gives you that after 50,000 miles? This car is the deal of the century.
Rob I think your points are valid and very positive for existing owners.

For new buyers like myself, I prefer buying something that is worry-free, or....close.

We asked PCNA specifically about this situation. They said there are engines already in the chain, so it is possible that a customer might get older stock. But if the replacement engine has the issue they will have 6 or 7 years to find out. That is just reality, and it is PAG's call. If they believe the likelihood of a problem is pretty low, why would they recall and rebuild all these engines that they have in stock? They wouldn't. It's their call. Either way we are covered.

So...my advice is to just drive the car and forget about this issue.

I wouldn't call it old engine. It is G6 last generation engine that says on the crate. I'm sure that all the internal parts are updated to the newest specs. As far as I know all the replacement engines are remanufactured engines, but they just as good as new ones and look brand new in the crate.

The biggest difference that I have noticed so far is that the new engine doesn't burn ANY oil! I already put about 1000 miles and oil consumption is zero. My previous new engine took about two liters of oil every 1000 miles.

Read carefully: 10 yr / 120k mile warranty. Drive the dang car and enjoy! If the engine has a problem during the generous warranty period, you get a new engine. WE ARE COVERED, the risk rests with Porsche, not us.

I'm glad to take that deal instead of a getting an engine without reported issues so far but 'only' a 4 yr / 50k mile warranty.

I agree on the 10/120. I traded my 991.1 GT3 after 12 mo. and 12000 mi. Had I kept it I'd be rolling up similar miles.

Is this the warranty for the finger follower issue or limited to the early '14s?

If for FF, then it's from the in-service date which means several years less the 10 total and only for the ff.

IMO, Porsche should put a mileage only warranty/constraint. Since it's a very specific failure mechanism, and acknowledged design defect by Porsche, there should not be a time constraint, only mileage.

My car starting bucking and not operating correctly tonight. Went into reduced power mode but no check engine light. Engine didn't sound right either. Back to the dealer I go...

Just drive the cars guys, you are covered. I really don't see a reason to loose sleep over this.
