Default Used GT3 Prices

I believe 997 prices have come down significantly and will continue to do so as the economy is fluctuating. Question is, will 991 prices also eventually come down to low 100-110 from 130s and 140s (for a base car).

Looking at the GT3 market, I sometimes feel like the housing market pre 2009 and specifically buying a condo in a place like Manhattan. I'm think eventually the bubble will burst.

Whats everyones take?

I do not think they will. Demand is greater than Supply and believe it or not, PDK has helped create an over-demand for this model. I also do not think "the world is collapsing" scenario is as strong as some make it to be. I think US economy is not that bad(Not Great but not horrible either). Sure, Globally is may get dragged down some but it is not as bleak as some make it out to be.

It's an election year and we're overdue for a recession. I expect the markets will crash a bit harder than they are now.

On a side note, the Porsche market in general is a massive bubble and what happens to bubbles?

We havent had a recession in almost 8 years. Course correction usually happens every 7-9 years. So its bound to happen. I dont think its a question of if recession will happen but more of how it will effect these prices when it does.

Paying sticker for a used car is crazy if you ask me, didnt the same thing happen with 997 for sometime after 991 came out or was announced and I think 997s were going for more than sticker used and now you can find cars in 80s which is crazy.

Where are you getting these price points from? 130 for a 991 gt3 today?

There was one for 138 in cars.com about a month back. During fall (around october), I saw another one for 140. They go quick obviously. It was more of a reference, so 130/140->100 would be 160/170->120 or so. I used base car as an example simply because base price of a car has a lot more ROI than options you put on. Options will most likely depreciate a lot more and skew the depreciation curve.

Havent realized that ppl are investing in special cars because of the
stocks bonds commodities going to turn down for a while ?

So yes the economy will eventually get worse but then the special cars
will appreciate further

They are selling over original MSRP, no indication why that will change anytime soon.

Many used/pre-owned GT3's I have either seen advertised or inquired about are 10k-15k over original sticker... and are still sitting in their inventory for over 60 days. No way, not worth to throw extra cash away like that IMO.

I'm sure most of us don't buy these cars as investments, so does it really matter? Its weird on how some cars hold or appreciate and others don't. Look at the Huracan, people were paying $60k over and now you can get one for $60k under msrp. There are so many Ferrari's that go well below msrp, then a few years later are 200k over sticker. I don't think anyone is going to be able to predict what cars will go up in value unless they are very low production and that's not even a guarantee. I just bought a gt3 for sticker($151k) but the entire car had clear bra, it had new tires, and a sherkworks exhaust so I felt fine buying at that price. There are quite a few for sale right now and if it stays that way, I think one will be able to buy one at $120k-$140k(just my guess).

I'm surprised that a lot of people are not able to draw the link between economy and the value of a used gt3:

- I absolutely did not mean that because GT3 is a commodity investment, if the markets crash, its value will tank.
- In simple terms, luxury car sales is the first thing that gets crushed when recession hits. Not because rich is poorer (and they might be but regardless), but because human psychology and basic reasoning will force people to be more conservative. Many people who would pay "sticker" for a car like GT3 with a very limited purpose will wait and keep their funds.

I believe by 2017-2018, a 2015 model with non replaced engine will go as much as 20-25k below MSRP. Once new models are announced/released, the hype will die down. This is exactly what happened with 997s, I used to see 1-2 now there are so many of them, and they are not selling.

Also the warranty is another good selling point. Once cars reach to 5th year mark, they will take a hit as well.
