Advantages of 20s over 19s for wheels

Advantages of the 20s is a larger contact patch and somewhat better grip. Also look more sporty.
I think that advantage is marginal and outweighed by the advantages of the 19s listed by neanicu and 997s07
Personally, I would have ordered 19in wheels with 5 lug hubs on my GT3 if I had been given the choice.

^ I just do not know why everyone moving to 20s and the next step will be 21s. I have to believe eventually it will be the law of diminishing returns

Porsche has continued to increase overall diameter of the ties. With this comes increase in sidewall heights and also the additional weight of the tires. Going to a larger wheel keeps sidewall size similar to a smaller tire wheel combination.
As suspension control has improved, control is increased because the larger wheel keeps the tire form playing to large a part in the suspension control and movement.
Larger diameter means increased contact patch and better bump control thus a better ride. Since ride in improved the suspensions can be stiffened for better control.
As everything, there is a trade off in weight so who knows where the limit will be.

all part of a package of complex tradeoffs between unsprung weight, rotational mass, tire size/cost/choice/availability, contact patch, sidewall stability, and of course, intended use/application... as u can see there are no simple answers in life

Ultimately larger TIRE diameter is what equates to 1. better ride 2. more contact path 3. better overall performance.
In order to proportionally increases the tire diameter, manufacturers also increase wheel diameter. This is mainly for aesthetics. As a secondary reason, brakes are getting so big, you have to use the larger diameter wheel to fit.

One reason for larger wheels is the ability to accommodate larger brakes, which continues to increase as the cars become both heavier and faster every generation.

I've gone minus 1 and even minus 2 on my track wheels for years. The ONLY reason not to IMO is brake and suspension clearance. You simply select tires with as close as possible diameter on the smaller wheel. I do not believe you need 25 section width for handling and I believe some sidewall compliance is a good thing. And running rubber bands makes for more easily bent wheels.
The conspiracy theorist in me says Porsche uses 20 and 21 to keep slicks off cars they warranty.
Another reason I ordered an ACR Extreme. 19" wheels.
