Default Next GT3--expect sub-7:18 Ring time

Some interesting stuff here from Erhard Mossle, posted in an article on PH (http://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-g...oit-2016/33594)

Pertaining to GT cars:
The first surprise was the official claim that the new Turbo can lap the Nordschleife in 7min 18sec - making it quicker than the GT3 RS.
He admitted the Turbo's faster 'lap time' has created a bit of banter with the Motorsport division, but assured us that the next GT3 will almost certainly be faster again. "We like to say that it pushes our colleagues to the next level."
So it sounds like there will be a GT3 in the future. What that will look like, is not entirely clear from the interview.

But here is some info regarding the 911 generally:
He was predictably keen to emphasise that, as in the 918, the hybrid system will be adding performance rather than just boosting economy, with other efficiency savings likely to come from a development of the Carrera's recently launched turbocharged engine. Unsurprisingly Porsche has put the need to keep flat-six power right at the top of the priority list for future 911s. There's no chance of a latter-day 912.

"As far as I can see we will stay with six-cylinder engines in the 911," Mossle said, "we have good positioning, the 911 will have six and the 718 [Boxster and Cayman] will have four."

"Our goal is always that the 911 is really light compared to the competition," Mossle said, "technologies like turbo engines or crash regulations will make the car heavier. Therefore we are fighting hard... especially as if we are discussing plug-in hybrid then there's the battery weight."
But for Mossle, having the option of a stick is a point of principle. "It's a USP for Porsche to have a manual 911 and we will fight for it for as long as possible," he said, "I think we should definitely keep it for the next generation also."

Talking to as germans it's seems the turbo s is already under , also remember that's normal road tyres you can add several seconds for cup type tyres

Without Turbo they aren't getting close to that Ring time without a full carbon body or chassis!! Expect some lightening with some sprinkled carbon or MG pieces and turbo motor. With Cup 2 or Trofeo R the Turbo S is probably a 7:12-14 car on the Ring.

Next GT car will have to have turbos to beat that I think.

Or they could just put the GT3 RS engine into it and detune it slightly. Then make the suspension closer to GT3 RS suspension and add some of the light weight components from the RS. Maybe not all of them but some of them.

They can shed at least a 100 -150 lbs with light weight materials and CF wheels. Couple that with the 4.0 RS engine and you may be there.

If they do keep the GT cars NA for the 991.2 (I'm guessing no) they will definitely be the last NA P cars. NA is a dying breed and there's nothing anyone can do about it....it is what it is..

I'm sure whatever Porsche does (turbo or electric) on the future GT cars they will be amazing to drive and fast as hell on the track! I'm an optimistic, so I cant wait!

Just speculating, I think 991.2gt3 will be 2018 model and pretty much be a 991.1rs without the big wing and magnesium roof.

When it comes to 991.2rs I have no clue. Wild guess would be turbo and same engine and even more improved aero.
Have a strange feeling the 991.1rs could be the last gt3rs????

I think you are right the last NA and the R is the end of end ( perhaps the cup edition?) but doubt of this car...

some parts of the ring time are simulated. At some point, too much power will diminish the enjoyment of driving.
