So how do you get the yellow over fill light to go off? Unplug the battery? or does it have to go to the Porsche

add a little says over filled and smoke st start up...driving around smoke gone still says over fill and PDK Sport doesn't work... i give up.. going to dealer Monday

I overfilled my .2 GT3 on the fist oil change and simply loosened the oil filter a bit to drain a bit. There's no risk of it coming off, as there's lot's of threads left when it starts to drain.
After watching a video on Youtube, I put in 7.5 quarts, which was a bit too much in my car. Next time, I'll initially fill with 7 quarts, then measure from there.

That's a tough one. I'd say try to figure out how much came out of the crankcase when you accidentally drained it.

i read that when you open the trunk it resets the oil level...so i'll put 5qts in let it idle till warm and check. Hopefully that works

Yellow oil overfill light has happened to me a couple of times over the years. It is amazing how sensitive the monitor is! Luckily my dealer is close by and has a pneumatic siphon pump with a very long tube. Takes less than a minute, and it's free!

Don't know if this works with 991 GT3 but here goes...
I have a 996 GT3 and it's possible to remove excess oil from dipstick/oil filler tube. Use very large syringe and a hose (in my case ca. same lenght as dipstick). With the engine idling feed the hose into the filler tube and then use the syringe's vacuum to evacuate the amount of oil you need. It won't work with the engine shut because you can't feed the hose deep enough into the oil tank.

To the original OP, thank you for posting this! My car was serviced 100 miles ago and several weeks later the yellow warning appeared. Had it scanned and it indicated 257% in an allowed range of 100-200%. It was 0.1g over = 12.80z. Since the car was warm it meant making another appointment to have it addressed as it was too hot at that moment. Drove it home and found this thread. Of course the dealer can address easily but not interested in another appointment and more hassle that is involved with taking it in again.
I ordered the pump and purchased the tubing from Home Depot for $4. First attempt with the car cold did not work. Started the car and warmed it up to ~165. Second attempt I fished the tube down not connected to the suction pump. Worked like a charm and was easy to feed all the way down, with no force applied.
If you are like me and come across this the first time, it works. Warm the car, cut 3ft of hose, fish down gently and you will have about five inches to work with, attach to pump and take out what you need. I opted to cut at three feet so there was less travel for the pump. You don't want to have extra 3ft of hose as it will require more suction simply to get the process started.

I did what the OP suggested after going from "low oil" warning to "overfill" by adding 1 quart. Sucked 3/4 quart easily with a syringe and single piece of vinyl tubing from Home Depot. Took 15 min. Now, reads 1 green bar. Pretty easy fix, like I used to do on the 996 GT3 through the filler neck.
