Crawford Wing endplate modification
I know there are lots of Rennlisters who aren't fans of the Crawford wing, but I love the aero benefits on the track and for the most part like the look. The one area where I think it looks a bit cheap is the endplate style. Basically it is a thin piece of carbon fiber. I've been working with Crawford Composites to come up with an end plate that approximates the GT3 stock wing, and that also hides the attachment bolts. Here are some CAD drawings of the design they have come up with. They were fine with me posting these on Rennlist to get feedback from the other Crawford owners, as well as the haters.
Let me know what you think. I also included some shots of the stock wing next to the Crawford wing to illustrate the differences.

nice work , agree in getting the Crawford upgrade product to more of an OEM presentation a big
improvement and may create more buyers for it as a result of your tweaking it !

Interested in what others think too Rich. Is there specific motorsports reasons to have flat, big end plate? There seem to be so many different styles in motorsports. Some hang all below the level of the wing, others 50/50 above and below. In a high speed corner with an oversteer event, do they help keep the rear from swinging out too fast? I guess I would like to hear Max C's take on the original design. And even if there is reasons, I would be interested in a cleaner look for the street time. With 3 simple bolts a side, it is a 1 minute swap.

Aesthetically, I hate the wing end plates on the 991 GT3. I'd much prefer a Cup car style of end plate. If you're looking for an OE street car look, hop back one model year to the 997.2 GT3s.

We've now settled on a rev2 design which I'm waiting for final pricing on. When I asked what impact the angle of the endplate would have, here was the response:
Angling the endplates would cause two issues:
1. Spill off would increase on the larger angle side
2. You create an increased area of separation where the angle is smaller than 90 and meets the endplate, increasing drag and reducing downforce
No idea why Porsche added the angle for the 991 GT3 wing. Crawford only did the angle because I said to replicate the stock look. So I asked Crawford to do another version with a 90 degree angle, but the with dimensionality of the stock place. Here are the revised drawings. Assuming the price is within reason, I'm hoping to get the order underway soon.

Crawford is still contemplating whether to move forward with the new end plate design, given the cost of making up the new molds and the unknown degree of interest. It may help move things forward if those of you with the wing could drop them a note letting them know you are interested.

I never closed the loop on my quest for a different endplate and I've had a few people ask, so here are photos of what I had fabricated. Crawford decided they weren't interested in making different plates, given the low volume, so I had some built locally in Atlanta (http://downingatlanta.com/downingatlanta/Race_Shop.html). They cost around $400 and look pretty good, although the tolerances on the buttons that cover the retaining screws aren't perfect. I like the look better, but there is still room for improvement and I wish Crawford would offer these directly.

Love my Crawford Wing also, not only on the Track, but on the Road. The higher wing placement gives me an unblocked, clear view out the rear view mirror to see exactly what kind of car is following me. - Is he going to challenge me or pull me over? PRICELESS!!! And yes, the newly designed color-matched endplates definitely integrate the wing better into the GT3 OEM design. Nice Job!!!
