You sure the airbag will still fire OK with that 3rd ground connection missing?

So about $4700 all in? I remember when someone wanted the colored steering wheel stripe on their GT3, and the exclusive amount was like $6,000!!

Question for the group: The stripe at the 12' o'clock position comes from the motorsports world............. can someone tell me why it is there?

I am assuming it is for a track side alignment set ups, where the techs can see that the steering wheel is centered as they change camber/toe settings.

Can't be for the driver....no one is looking at the steering wheel

my understanding is that it is for the driver so he has a quick visual reference for when the wheels are pointing straight ahead, particularly useful in the rallying world.

I have heard that in the past too. But that makes no sense. The hands never leave the steering wheel, and a seasoned racer "knows" where he has the front wheels pointing and is looking through the corner, not at the steering wheel.

Perhaps so the race driver can pull into the pits and make sure his wheels are perfectly straight for wheel/tire change? That seems logical.

I have ordered an RS steering wheel and airbag and will have GMG install on my GT3; I know this has been discussed, but it seems no one has tried.. I am trying and will post the results once complete. At least this will provide me with the illusion of driving an RS. Haha.

Another interesting benefit of GT3 is that you can get Trofeo R's (RS can only fit Cup 2's), which are good for 1+ second per 60-sec lap vs. Cup 2's... so a GT3 with Trofeo R's in capable hands should be able to keep up with the RS... at least that's what I keep telling myself... LOL LOL.
This thread and what you did is nothing but goodness.

Did a little research on these wheels today and thought I'd pass on the knowledge.

1) The leather GT3 RS wheel is only available in black stitching (blends in with the leather). The Alcantara wheel is available in silver or orange stitching. Both style wheels MSRP and dealer cost are the same.

2) There are two different center airbags: one in leather, and another in plastic/vinyl. The leather airbag is ~$170 higher dealer cost than the non-leather airbag.

I've ordered a leather wheel and airbag to retrofit on to my car, so I'll post here on how it goes when the parts arrive in about a month.

I've confirmed that the leather wheel comes with the leather air bag. But does the Alcantara wheel come with the leather airbag too? From these pictures of the wheels, it looks like it just might...

Plastic airbag (notice the sharp-edged detail on the horn and AIRBAG logo from the molded plastic):

Leather airbag (notice the "stamped leather" look of the horn and AIRBAG logos):

So I guess you don't get the 12 o'clock marker in yellow on the leather wheel?

Hey Laguna_Dude, did the airbag you ordered come with a plastic cover, or a leather cover? (see pics I just posted)

Now I am suspecting that "full leather" cars come with leather airbags, while base interior cars might come with the plastic airbags... need to dig up some more pics to confirm.

Looks like not. No yellow 12 o'clock marker, and no deviated stitch.

Update: just confirmed through the dealer by comparing an Alcantara-wheel car VIN and leather-wheel car VIN that the air bags are identical, and that that air bag is about $170 more expensive than the baseline air bag listed on the Suncoast site... hmmm...

Hmmm... MACarbon upgrade GT3 wheel is about $1500. Keeps stock wheel, choice of multiple leathers, multiple stitch color and patterns, multiple center stripes colors, option for thick size and IMO better finish work. Close to half the price. I can live with the stock "oversize" wheel and the "slow" PDK I like a red stitch, red center stripe with black smooth leather to match the cars red accents. Just not a fan of a wheel that doesn't come spec'd to the car.. RS mystique?

I think some want a smaller steering wheel and shorter throws. For me not that important. I ended up up with a CF Steering wheel, which I love, and sold the stock wheel- " To each their own" - I guess
