Default GT3 Power increase?

Hello-

I haven't seen any threads on increasing power of the standard GT3.

I know Porsche did a great job with the overall package.

But, if I were inclined to look for more power, do the typical bolt ons apply? Intake, exhaust, tune...?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Stay tuned for our Dundon/RK headers/race mufflers. Our 997.1 setup on the 3.6L gives 22-25whp, we expect at least 25whp on the 991 GT3 and dropping about 50lbs out of the back of the car!

Group buy is $6500.00

Dundon? Is that the brand?

So basically a full exhaust?

I'm assuming you have dyno comparisons?

We're finishing up the dyno comparison this week on the 991 GT3...

Not an easy car to tune to be honest. It is already pretty much as good as it will get.

Like any NA car, there is little you can do to significantly increase power short of going FI. Porsche managed to gain 25 hp by boring out the cylinders to 4.0L. As an alternative, exhaust/headers maybe 10-20 hp but, lots of luck getting the ECU flashed for proper gains. Whatever the case it's way more expensive than it's worth to modify these cars, you're better off buying a turbo if that's what you want.

Dan (has a SW bypass still new in box in garage if someone wants to buy it)

Do yourself a favour Dan, go put the SW on and take it to 9K rpm and your grin will be unexplainable.

Awesome. My experience with long tubes is they are great for the top end..... But your low and mid-range suffer.
Does this typically happen with the 911 engines as well?
Def interested to HEAR more videos!
Thanks!

PhilT3,

Not to much to gain other than the exhaust system, mainly the headers. Our headers use a 200 cell hi flow cat as seen in this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...converter.html

Plus, we have done a fair amount of real world testing of these components on the track.....see latest video:

Do you really think the 991 GT3 is underpowered?

I'd rather have more downforce, than more top-end HP.

Maybe a little more low-mid end torque, but then it wouldn't make revving it up to 6k and beyond so much fun, and tantalizing.

I don't think it's worth doing anything more than a center muffler bypass for the sound. That is something that 95% of dealers will ok and it won't void your warranty.

All the other stuff, cats, headers, etc, won't increase torque, which is what you would feel the most, and doing those things will void your warranty at most Porsche dealers, and for what? Just to eek out 10-15 hp that you won't feel anyway?

I don't get it.

I can see doing this to a GT3 that is out of warranty, but I think it is madness to make these kinds of modifications a GT3 that is still under factory warranty, as you won't achieve much actual power gain, most of what people "feel" is just placebo , but you still face very real risk of noncoverage for any future warranty claims.

I don't know yet. I haven't gotten mine yet.
BUT....my DD is a 575hp/502tq M5.
And my last weekend toy was a 800hp turbo-charged SRT8 Jeep. ; )
But I get it, that was a sledgehammer and the GT3 is a scalpel. I'm ready for a precision instrument.
I evaluated the Viper and Z06/7. But determined them way over-powered for my first track car.

Additionally.... I'm just doing my homework out of curiosity of what's available in the event I DO want more power.

Very good points I have been considering as well. Hence why I'm asking about what's to gain so I can make the cost/risk:benefit evaluation.

Anyone know if most dealers will void warranty with the use of the side muffler bypass?

Well, the M5 is something like 2 tons, or about 1000 pounds heavier than the GT3. Still, wicked fast (once you have traction) but it's still hauling 2 tons of heavy metal around.

And if we're going to compare an SRT-badged Jeep to a GT3, then I think we're all missing the point.

I think if you wanted a car that is more track-oriented with some of the low-end grunt of the M5, then a TT/TTS might have been a better option.

That said, if you want more power in a GT3, the best and most practical route might be to lower the weight, so that the stated 475 hp feels stronger than it is. Bypass (center or side delete), lighter wheels, etc.

Ok, you didn't catch my eye wink [ ; ) ] when mentioned the SRT8.

Come on now bud... I know you don't know me from Adam.... But I assure you...I get it. I'm not comparing... Just sharing.

All your points are spot on and valid. Thanks!
