Default Manual GT3 or 475BHP GTS? What ya reckon?

I was wondering the other day why nobody has made the effort of swapping the PDK in a GT3 to a 7-speed manual of latest GTS. Or sequential 6-speed...

Or why nobody has yet fitted a 9K screamer to a manual GTS...

Or have they?

Just wondering 'cause if it can be done I might even consider this option.

I would think the cost really wouldn't be worth it.

I think due to the difference in gearing ratios of the PDK-S vs. 7MT in the Carrera S would make the car significantly slower. My guess would be a half a second or more slower zero to 60.

Warranty

As in almost every GT3 is still under one, and no one wants to void it by swapping transmissions.

And stuffing the GT3 engine in a 7MT 991 Carrera chassis does get you to a 7MT 991 GT3. Then there's that whole warranty thing again.

Ask again in 3 or 4 years.

But then by that time who knows what people roll want. Maybe even an air cooled GT3 RS.

I realize that the overhead costs would be significant.

But if some company would put together a package all these hardcore-manual-transmission-GT3-guys will have to put their money where their mouth is ... (am including myself btw;-))

Imagine one showing up in the classifieds !?! Warranty or not!?! I'dd be very tempted!

Quite a large (niche)market I reckon and some proper $$$ to harvest!

Ok,your post has caught my attention.
You can't just post this and walk away. I need details please. How is this possible? What transmission are they using? What's involved?

Personally I think you would need to use the 4.0 RS engine. The 3.8 would be a dog with a manual. Poor torque doesn't make it a very flexible engine.

I think the RS Engine in a Cayman is the way to go - pick between the 6MT on the base Cayman or PDK. The 6MT in the base Cayman has slightly better gearing than the GT4 and weight savings over the 7MT which is really substantially similar to the PDK.

It would be something like $45k donor car + $90k in mods (assuming $60k for engine) and call it done (do engine + steel brakes all around using 997 PCCB calipers).

Not sure why you would think a revvy engine would not match a manual transmission. Quite the contrary is true!

I've very much enjoyed manual rentals with only a 1.3.

Everyone just needs be patient and wait until 2017 when the 991.2 GT3 will be manufactured by Porsche with a manual option (and factory warranty), likely for a lot less than some of these wacko conversion ideas.
