but in general, for car guys, put the garage as close you living space as you can and put wet bar and kitchenette in it. if you exerrcise, add gym to it. BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER LEAVE THAT ROOM

and where is this place.... i think my entire lot will fit in your living room

Attached is a very rough site plan showing the extents of the Lot (some 20,000 sq ft). The house is about 6500 sq ft, but that also includes the covered deck space as that is considered that living space in Bonaire. The picture makes it look much more grand than it really is, but hey I am still pinching myself that I was able to put an offer in. Now the offer is still outstanding, so the ‘fat lady has not sung’, so it ain’t over just yet.

Bonaire is an Island in the southern Caribbean, just about 60 miles North of that wonderful country called Venezuela. It still is an official part of the Netherlands, as such it has a stable local government, a sound legal system and for the Caribbean a very good medical system. Crime is of course real, but it is for the most part non-violent. It has some of the best diving and snorkelling that can be found, and for us Windsurfers and Kiteboarder's, the trade winds blow 15-30 kts most every day.

LOL, That would be equal to Sero. But pretty much all the local folks speak English pretty well. Papiamento is official on Aruba and Curaco, but not on Bonaire. Bonaire has Dutch as the ‘official’ language. However, I am about as fluent in Dutch as I am in Papiamento, so it is mostly a moot point. ;). Aruba and Curacao are sovereign states, but Bonaire is technically still part of the Netherlands.

Good to hear. My spouse is Dutch. We have visited the Nederland Antilles several times. Nee ik nederlands spreken -:)

existing pad i sflat so no grading needed, much cheaper. location-wise i like the alternate spot as it's closer to the residence.
i ca 'nt make out the topo line on the alternate location but on pic, it appears it's way higher up, at the 3rd floor level of your residence? i would prefer it to be at the level of your living/dining room so you have easy access to it. if you can't make that happen, i would save money and build on the existing pad

You guys have some great spaces! I figured I would post a few shots of my working garage followed by the "Shouse" that my wife and I are trying to find land to build now. My dream is to have a Show garage and working garage, as well as a spot for the daily's.

Mooty,
Thanks for your input. I most likey will end up building on the existing car-port pad. As you noted there really is not a good way to have an entrance from the alternate spot into the house. The pad location is just a short walk across an existing bridge to the main door, which is on the third level. The main living space is on the second and first floors. There is an outside staircase beside the house, not visible on the photo, that goes down to the pool/yard level from the back of the pad area. It is not going to be a man-cave high end storage place, those will stay back in Canada. It will be home to most likely an all electric Leaf or a Golf-e and a couple of Vespas 300s. The house already has a good Solar installation and I will use the extra roof space on the garage to add to its capacity. If I go all electric on the vechicle, I would save some 30% on the import duties. Vespa is also bringing out an all electric scoot this year. Maybe I will go fully green in Bonaire

Kranzle is an excellent pressure washer. The quality of the hose itself almost justifies the cost. Can't believe all those years wrestling with those stiff plastic-like hoses that have a mind of their own!

Need some layout ideas. building a 40 wide x 30 deep 3 car detached garage and want a loft upstairs. Want a back 'room' to store parts, big tools and stuff to keep it out of the main garage space, plus put in a sink (probably don't need a bathroom). Obviously need space for the stairs to go to the loft. anyone got something similar that they can give me ideas with dimensions?

TIA

40 foot wide x 44 deep. Pass door enters a 17' wide bay(+-) on the right and there is a wall between the 2 sides. Second floor is built with "room" trusses so that room is 18' x 44' with 6 dormers. Stairway runs right to left in the back of the 17'' bay with a utility room under it with service panel, generator panel, air compressor, slab heating boiler. Right bay also has 2) 4 post lifts end to end.
The left side is equivalent to a 2 stall 24' wide garage (but 44 deep) because that was what was there and we used part of its foundation. Enough room to change tires on either car there and deep enough for 2 cars deep with at least 10 feet beyond that for working on stuff, tire storage, tire changer.
It is plumbed for a half bath upstairs and has a 200 amp panel.

I'm in the process of building almost the same dimensions of your garage. It will be 36' wide and 44' deep, with a 2nd floor that will be finished with a bathroom and made into a gym/guest room. They just dug it out for the footing on Saturday.
My plan is to park the 2 daily's in the left doors and put a 2 post lift on the right door. In front of those put three 4 post lifts. Make sense? Lol

Finally got around to shuffling cars (and accumulate junk) long enough to paint/flake/seal my floor. Went ahead and painted most of the walls and trim to complete the look. Now need to add a mini-split and foam insulate the attic space. My 11yo daughter has already claimed the "clubhouse."
Note- if you are ever planning a project that takes a few hours a day and stretches for several days, consider doing it during the Olympics. They have been a great distraction and, though I really cared nothing for any of the sports, listening to it in the background had me actually cheering for individuals and teams by the time it was done.

It will work fine but you will wish you added even a few feet to the width, especially the right 2 post working bay. First time you change tires. You could try putting the 2 post lift at a slight angle pointing to the left to gain some more work space around it. Entry door to the side I assume? 4 post lift at the entrance is a great idea because you can keep a car up in the air without a car under it. And a car in front of it too. That way either car can be taken out without moving others. That all goes to hell when you collect another car that needs to park under the first. See attached pdf.
