My home search over several years, and reading back through this thread, give me the impression is that it's quite uncommon to find garages for more than 3 or 4 cars even with homes that are relatively large and expensive (say 3X or higher cost than the average home in the state).
Is it really that uncommon for people who buy such homes to only have three or four cars? Yes. Keep in mind that people shop houses on a $/Sf basis often. Garage space can't drive that metric down. It'll show up on a stat sheet, but it's not something your average homeowner will care about. Even the 10,000 SF plus custom homes in my area average 4 bays. Sometimes 6. Rarely more. And most of that is for storage (no basements here) |

Is it a hassle to take the top car down and out with that particular lift? I have seen some with removable ramps that one would have to drag out and leave until returning... Seems like a hassle |

instead of stair, i bought a genie lift and use it as elevator. i am too weak to walk my spare wheel/tire up the stairs! now my kids come to garage just to play the "elevator" |

Got my HOA approval yesterday after they deliberated for roughly 32 seconds. My old neighborhood required me to get signatures from at least 5 neighbors just to paint the house (same colors) and I don't think I would have got that here. Can't believe I'm going to build pretty much right up to my lot line and they didn't even bat an eye at it.
Can't wait! |
