So we did RCN7 today.

+1°C down in Breidsheid. It was impossible to drive 9.30 during the first lap as we planned because it was so slippery because of the cold.

Anyway, Cars engine blew up on lap 6 so no driving for me today.

This fell out of the car when we loaded it on the trailer: Looks like one of the pistons.

Ring-Attack's Andreas.
It's a race car with Hollinger paddle shift, air jacks etc

I think that that car sadly was crashed on Kesselchen just as it was to be P1 in class.

So it was time to do my first VLN race!

The purpose of the this race and the next is to qualify to get the Permit A.

There are three "Permits". You need one of these for racing in some races on the Nordschleife:

Permit C: RCN 3hours and some classic races (I think)

Permit B: VLN - low performance cars

Permit A: VLN and 24H High performance cars

To get the Permit A I need to do total 18 laps in two VLN races in a slower car. I need to finish amongst the 75% first of my class.

So in VLN7 we finished 17th out of 26 cars so step one is now done. I've done 8 laps and needs 10 laps in the next race, which is on Saturday,

Anyway, I learned that the best thing you can do when racing/doing trackdays is to be in time. Arrive early, make sure that you are not stressed.
I failed badly one could say.

I was in Nürburg really early before the race but had to leave too go home for a funeral and then return to Nürburg.

So the race is on saturday and on Thursday I travel back to Sweden. Participate in the funeral on Friday.

4 minutes after the funeral is over I get a message from the airline: "Your flight has been cancelled". (I was to fly back to Germany in the evening after the funeral dinner).

This set me in a state of panic!

Problem is that there is not very much flights to choose from. My Cayman S is parked in Düsseldorf so it would have been nice to fly to DUS.
Several alternatives where evaluated including driving a rental from Sweden to Nürburg.

In the end me and wife flew to Luxemburg. Got ourself a rental and drove to Nürburg (1.5h drive).
The problem with this was that we went to bed at 01.30 am and I had to get up at 6.00 am to meet team, do registration, technical inspection, drivers briefing etc.
After that it is qualification race.

So from I woke up until race I barely got time to breed.

Then after the race me and wife had to go back to Luxemburg with the rental.

I'd say this was a long day. I was glad that we decided not to pickup the Cayman the same day.

But in the end - the race was a great experience. I was bit tired on 6th lap - realized that I was thinking on returning the rental and other not so racy stuff. A bit low on concentration I guess

Both drivers really liked it and it was not as horrific as I thought it would be. Most drivers behaved great - we did part - looking in rear mirrors and indicating which side we stay on.
The speed difference is... big!

Some picts from race day

Early morning walk to the GP track.

Drivers briefing. Normally you do drivers briefing, tech inspection and registration the day before. If you're late you can do it in the morning.

VLN - here I come!

Still early in the mrning - the paddock.

Qualification

This car was about to win its class but crashed on the last lap

Getting ready for the first stint. My co driver did stint 1 and 3 and I did the second stint. Next race we switch.

Preparing formation lap

The cool thing about Nürburg is that much is very accessible as a spectator.

Being on the Grand Stand watching the race start - the same race you will participate in was strange

This trips name was originally "Three races and a funeral" but it turned out to be "Four races and a funeral".

The trip is coming to its end - one race to go but it has been a great month with good driving, nice people and good food.

This sums it up:

RCN race
Funeral
VLN race
Scuderia Hanseat - driver training
RCN race
VLN race (on Saturday).

A LOT of Touristdriving.
