918 owner i spoke to thought that all 918 guys were taking one, that this is the type of car which truly made the 918 VIP program worth it to them... it's going to be super special, unlike anything we've seen in terms of detailing, I had also heard "Singer-ish"... and it's going to go to the top customers. most of us on here are just spectators at this point... if anyone is able to put a deposit down, and they AREN'T a 918 VIP person.. please let us know. It's just a pretty mind-F...K for the rest of us.
ok, I want plaid/tartan seats in mine.

I realize that, but for emissions reasons, and because this vehicle seems to have had a very short development cycle, I don't see them re-engineering whatever engine they use. And if the car is going to be as special as everybody is speculating, whether it has a 3.8 or 4.0 doesn't seem too relevant.

Agree that 25 car's do not make sense to me neither but remember porsche is master in special editions..... Sportclassic, 997 RS 4.0, Special editions in different market (NL Targa, US Rennsport Edition etc...
Question is how many do make sense... 900 is too many in my eyes but why did porsche only build 25 or the original 911 R ..... same question could be asked.....

But I don't think so! Pretty sure 991.2gt3 will be offered with a MT. I think 991R is a trip down memory lane. 50th anniversary of the 911R. Would make sense with the rumored small amount of cars. Meant to be driven to cars and coffe.

Only the 4 prototype "R"s were 67's. The 20 production cars all carried 11899---R serial numbers, the "8" is model year 68. Where did the 4.0 engine rumor start? I sure hope they come up with a better gearbox than the Mechanical Converted PDK. Gordon PS the green stripes need to be changed to red on the BP rendering of the 991, to be correct.

Don't get me wrong, I think the R will be a great car. But I didn't get the impression that it will be a Motorsport product or a GT car. Maybe targeted for collectors and guys that wants to add a weekend fun car. Hopefully it's possible to spec with rear seat for added usability.
