We'll see, I wouldn't get my hopes up. The Cayman R didn't have a gt3 engine, in the artical its says "naturally aspirated engine, closely related to that of the GT3" which can be said similarly about the 991, Cayman/Boxster engines

Of course, same architecture and modular but it will have specs closer to GT3/RS cars than PK 3.8L. I wouldn't use the Cayman R as any reference of whats to come on the 911R, this car is a 911 and board surely will let them unleash the specs and they have purposely been holding Cayman potential back for quite some time including GT4 (production costs would not have been different with proper gearbox ratios out of gate, but theres a reason that they are in there and its not because of "Bundesautobahn" excuse....good try AP )

no aero like the RS
New front bumper

interior with carbon door panel etc... (very purist)
No rear seats
No roll cage (option?)
weight saving 100 - 130 kg
New exhaust system???

He said more information coming soon
He say me an hardcore interior and a puristic car and he say me not a GTS with a smile
I believe these two items to be mutually exclusive. The 4.0 RS uses the wider Turbo bodywork with side intakes. I expect the R will have a 3.8.

Hoping they throw out the PASM dampers for an X73-type of analog suspension as well...

They just used the turbo rear to save money - GT3 R with substantially same 4.0 doesn't use them.

Agree on the suspension side.

Talked to my local dealership yesterday and they don't know too much about the specs but they said they are all accounted for and be ready to pay a huge mark up if one becomes available. I guess they are offered to 918 owners first. Sound like these will be going straight to collections and will get very little road time

4.0 liter Engine
significant weight reduction / carbon fiber
Manual Transmission
2017 model year - 50 years anniversary of 911 R
only one color option
Limited production - 25 cars - same as original 911 R

....Very high price point - above anything we are used to in 911 world.... recommend to forget to get onto a list as all already spoken for....

25 cars???? Doesn't make sense. When AP discussed a manual gt3, he wasn't talking about making a unicorn. They wouldn't go to all this trouble for 25 cars.. Less than 1000, makes more sense.

Correct, 25 wouldn't even be worth producing on any level....I think we will see more than 1000, I think the "limited" part has been over exaggerated.

I'm pretty sure this is possible...

Find an MSRP dealer that didn't have any 918 buyers. One that has done enough GT3 and RS business to warrant a pretty good chunk of allocations. Go put money down now and you'll get one. It's possible...

Would it be correct to assume that this model will be the last NA 911 with a MT?

The 991 mk2 will be only turbo and the 991 GT 3 mk2 will be only PDK ...

Maybe I am missing something.

918 owner i spoke to thought that all 918 guys were taking one, that this is the type of car which truly made the 918 VIP program worth it to them... it's going to be super special, unlike anything we've seen in terms of detailing, I had also heard "Singer-ish"... and it's going to go to the top customers. most of us on here are just spectators at this point... if anyone is able to put a deposit down, and they AREN'T a 918 VIP person.. please let us know. It's just a pretty mind-F...K for the rest of us.

ok, I want plaid/tartan seats in mine.

Stupendous speculation here! It is immensely entertaining! Just like with the 991 GT3,GT3 RS...there were " sources ",mostly from dealers...what the SA,finance manager, sales manager etc had dreamt the night before in his wildest dream, jumping from hot naked chicks to unicorn 911s. We have heard about flat 8 GT3s,unobtainable power and weight to KERS technology or Turbo engines.
Then you'll have " factory approved " sources engineers, designers, board members...hell even Dr Wolfgang Porsche might be an insider!
The pattern is pretty similar and consistent each time.
I'll take my cleaning lady " source " over the rest! Lol!
