VW Group made $12 billion in profit in 2014. So what if they have to spend half of it fixing the non-compliant cars. It's just like going through a divorce - they'll live through it.

Yup, and all they did was cheat a little...
But the domino's are falling, with all the year over year tax discounts based on emission numbers. Anything Turbo could be a claim..

Seems a little out of whack to me. Yes they cheated. But who was truly hurt? No one. Not even the polar bear was hurt. Yet, with Government Motors, they knew they had faulty ignition switches, and real people did die. They get the slap on the wrist.

Sounds about right - that would be the alimony.

You could say same thing with lance Armstrong for example, but if you dig deeper, you find govt funds involved with US Postal service, and when that happened, it became even more serious. With vw, The tax incentives offered for the supposed co2 emission reduction of vw diesels, will all have to be calculated.. THEN.. Consider all the money NOT collected by European govts from owners who paid less taxes because their cars had lower co2 emissions (cars in Europe are taxed based on emissions now).. When you look at the potential losses, VW could be paying out many many tens of millions... That $87M figure isn't far off just to recoup lost tax revenue, not even discussing penalties yet...

Tax 'em into bankruptcy!!!!!! It's only fair. Regulations of oversized governments will ruin the business climate of the world as we know it. And they can all take their huge monster sized government debts and blame businesses for not paying enough, "they need to pay their fair share". If the sheep of this planet don't wake up and make some hard decisions, we won't have a world economy to worry about anymore. Anyone wonder why most American cars aren't even made in America anymore?

And the emissions scandal is most relevant to the US. I thought those diesels would still pass EU standards, but failed ours. What about the savings in diesel fuel from the better mpg? LEt's at least give VW a credit back for that.

The whole "scandal" just makes me laugh. Name a government in this world that is not corrupt? That is fair and honest in all dealings?? There isn't one

This debacle is over NOx emissions, not CO2 emissions. Diesels emit less CO2 than gasoline engines, hence the IRS 'alt fuel' tax credits.
