TRAKCAR does ED

The language in Porsche's ED agreement is sloppy. The old version stated that the car needs to be exported "within 6 months after its delivery to the Customer and before 6,000 km". The current version changes the 6 month period to 3 months but leaves the 6,000km figure. They also added the following wording to the registration / insurance section which was not in the old version: "The maximum length of registration is 90 days total, per European Law." Both versions have identical language in three different places that it must be dropped at the shipper "to ensure that the Vehicle can be exported to the United States/Canada sooner than 6 months from the date the Vehicle is delivered to the Customer." This would suggest the shorter time period (and likely the km figure has more to do with Porsche's willingness to provide insurance.) As an example...
BMW still allows up to 5 months of insurance and registration and makes no note of a distance limit. (Side note BMW's insurance cost is significantly lower than PCNA's possibly due to the average cost of their cars since both companies offer flat rates regardless of car. BMW also offers discounts for ED and doesn't collect a VAT deposit pending export from the EU.)
Mercedes is the best - you can get insurance and registration up to 12 months! Language from their site:
How long can I drive my vehicle in Europe?
Up to a maximum of twelve (12) months if purchased, thirty (30) days if leased. The International Registration is limited to the duration of insurance, however not exceeding a maximum period of twelve (12) months from the date of registration. The German Export Registration Plates are not valid in the U.S.
Will I be charged European road taxes?
If your European Road Insurance/Registration exceeds three (3) months, the road tax is applicable. The Road Tax is payable at time of delivery in Germany. [Curious how much this would be...]
Kind of got carried away since I am curious about this. I'll put this and some other info I've found in the ED forum to not derail Trakcar's epic thread.

It's to prevent resourceful Europeans from ordering a car in USA and doing the ED, then keeping the car indefinitely in Europe thus avoid paying the 19% VAT on top of also paying lower US MSRP.
Sort of like Montana registration that ppl are doing here....only at even greater savings!

Just a long jet lagged day in the office so far..
After 3 months of fun, got a proper dose of reality slapped in the face haha.
Waking up mid morning, have a new RS in front of the door at Hotel Am Tiegarten, 1 minute from the Ring gates, first have little breakfast buffet to brighten the day the day ;-), go for a (Autobahn) ride, service / fuel the car, then back in time to hang out at Devils Diner for a couple hours have ice cream for lunch and then try to knock out 10 laps, followed by a beer at Pistenklause is a way better way to live ..

LOL,
Just crying in my coffee and looking at my temp German plate with dead German bugs and a lonely key.
Like Alexcio said, meant to be to get a plate that indicates your BTG Nurburgring target
Will start working on shipping cost for the car there and back soon to plan next summer haha.

Two months on and I think back to Hangover part 4 … Let loose in Europe, lol...
Reality really does suck! Ultimate end game is GT3 or RS parked in Europe and fly in fly out holidays each year! Or so I'm convinced

If a few of you get together for a driving tour of the UK and Europe and you all ship your cars together to the UK as a group, it should not cost too much.
There are are so many tracks over here and the distances are literally just a few hours between tracks.
Track days on Silverstone and Spa sell out quickly, however, with good planning you could have a brilliant Tour Event.
I also wish to add that this Thread is excellent, it was truly great to meet you Peter and your lovely wife here on the Isle of Man.
