While I think the 488 will out perform its predecessor, I don't think it can match the emotion and fell of the NA V8. However, the jury is still out as I (and most people) haven't driven one yet. If I was to get another FCar, I would get a F12 to add to my collection (although I may need to sell my left kidney first before that happen). I don't foresee a 488 in my future.

The 488 engine is based on the California T. And supposed to be even better, and more sharply tuned.

Having driven the California T, if the 488 is better, than the elves at Maranello have all but conquered turbo lag.

Speciale is very different to the 458 in my opinion,
But if I could afford it, I wouldn't get the 488 but I would definitely get the SPECIALE.
488 doesnt have much drama. The sound is low, very comfortable, could easily be driven daily, similar to a turbo S per example

Good to know that you can test a 488 in Lebanon ! Thanks for the review , but can you just drop a couple of comparison points with the GT3

Ferrari sound is cool. The turbo will sound good too, just different. If sound is everything you could just put a loud muffler on a civic.

Ok I will try although it really is a different car.

1) Steering is much quicker in the 488, only 2 turns lock to lock so you can imagine how direct it is. Honestly, although GT3 is electrical, I feel it has better precision and feel that the 488s

2) power: nothing to compare here. 488 is easily faster in every way.

3) Handling: The 488 is more tail happy but with much less understeer, it is much better in slow speed corner as the front end is better. GT3 is has more grip over all.

4) fun factor, the GT3 needs much more courage to push beyond its limit due to the rear engine characteristics. but more rewarding.

5) ride quality: with bumpy road button on, the 488 almost feels like a saloon car, so much more of a daily driver.

Still I would not change my gt3 for a 488 only for a speicale(but speciale is out of my budget). The 488 Just doesn't feel special enough for me.

GT3 remains the bargain of the century

Ferraris should be about the drama and about being something special to drive.

i dont understand why people keep mentioning turbos muffling sound. Just buy a straight pipe. You will gain like 50+hp and the 458/gt3 you pass won't even be able to hear their own engine. Any car can be made to be loud.

as for lag. You are never going to eliminate lag, its physically impossible with current technology unless you have a hybrid motor to fill in the gap like the P1.

My question is why didnt Ferrari put straight pipes from the factory? Why do they add mufflers if the car is already too quiet?

they need to have catalytic converters for emissions. which also muffle sound.

this is especially true for turbo cars. The second you floor it they force feed air into the engine, as a result you dump alot more fuel in and thats why they make huge power. You need cats to treat all that exhaust gas.

My GTR is straight piped, but its also on E85. I'd reckon it runs cleaner than most stock NA cars.
