991.2 GT3 will be NA and PDK.
Prediction: the generation after that will also be PDK, but maybe turbo.... Going to be really interesting to see what they decide..
FWIW, for 2018 does anybody really care if GT3 is manual? Given the size, rear wheel steering and all the other electronic gismos it is pretty much far removed from analog...
If one wants an analog stick, there is always a preowned 997GT3 as they were the last of the analogs...
Appears to me that everybody who has a PDK has pretty much warmed up to them.

PDK is pure brilliant.Very involving and you do feel connected. I am very very happy with my 991 GT3. I do still want a Manual. But- I do agree that I do not know how they could accomplish this with the current engine in the GT3. It revvs way to fast and i do not care how good you are because I think you would not be able to exploit the whole package because of this.

I agree. It's not about the engine spinning too fast for a manual. That's marketing BS to favor the PDK. I bet the 991 GT3 would've been great with a good 6 speed! Not that it isn't great now, don't get me wrong...

I'm going to sound like a broken record on this....I love a good manual and love my 7 RS manual BUT I'm not so sure a 991 GT3 would be as enjoyable with a manual unless things changed a bit. As quickly as this thing revs in the 8-9k range and with similar ratios to PDK-S I'm thinking it might be a bit too much to manage and still enjoy at limit but who knows maybe they will surprise me with a package that will be a game changer?

But if someone can do it,Porsche will be the company to do it. It will be slower and less efficient than its PDK version. Are lap times the only thing relevant? I don't think so...
Remember that Porsche was testing a 6 speed manual 991GT3 before they've decided to go PDK. AP said it,not me.

No worries,I am a broken record already.

On the current path the next step is awd and turbos to get faster lap times - if that's all that matters.

If Porsche does a limited run production of this, then it is almost more of a slap in the face anyway. Won't be able to get your hands on one, and then it will be too expensive to track and have fun with it. It is a lose-lose scenario. Now, if they made an unlimited amount, and it truly was a bare-bones car, like a GTS without back seats, no radio, optional A/C, etc, then I would buy one to add to my stable, not replace my GT3. I think it will be limited, and the 918 guys will buy them all. So in the end, the fantasy is just a poster car.

Agreed. Based on APs recent comments, they aren't planning to do much R+D on the 991.2 GT3 anyway. They spent their R+D money coming up with the 991.1 GT3.
For the .2 GT3, echoing APs comments, they will just update the interior with the RS steering wheel, the new PCM that is going in all 991.2 911s, and maybe some other slight cosmetic tweak. And they will tweak the exhaust and cats a little bit so they can say the 991.2 GT3 has 490HP, even though we all know the 991.1 GT3 is already actually 490-495 HP.
It will take minimal expense to update the interior and PCM with what they are already putting into the 991.2 911s, and modify the exhaust, etc, without doing much to the actual GT3 engine. (They won't risk another fire by making major engine changes).
This is why the 991.2 GT3 will stay NA, because it will take minimal effort by Porsche to do so.
The real question comes for the 992 complete redesign of the GT3. That will take real R+D money, $ which parent VW will be spending on the VW diesel emission fiasco. Plus VW will worry about how much they spent paying for new 991 GT3 engines after the fires, and I expect they will just drop turbos in the 992 GT3/GT2 as it doesn't cost much to add boost.
I'm not sure if I will purchase a new Porsche for 15-20 years after the 991.2 GT3, as turbos just don't interest me.
