Too bad the OEM cage requires welding / drilling for the OEM receiving plates on the frame for the front section, as well as new cosmetic interior trim panels that are recessed to clear the rear bar legs ($$).

The alternative material DOM is supposedly more resilient and less prone to stress failure.

So if we eliminate the Cromoly steel cages we are left with Cantrell, CMS and Alexshop. I may have missed others but this is what I found.

Of these three I eliminated the Cantrell and the CMS Bar because they are multipiece .That leaves the Alex bar which is one piece welded from DOM and has the horizontal attachment closer to the seats keeping the belt length as short as possible.

Ok, thanks for reading to the end-anyone feel free to dispute or chin in. Also if you have an Alex bar let me know how you like it and post a pic of the view through the rear view mirror-thanks!
I'll chime in quickly. The interlocking joints used in CMS roll bars are 1018 Cold Rolled Steel; given that they're solid, they are stronger than the roll bar tubes themselves. Our clamp hardware is Metric Grade 12.9 (177,000 psi tensile strength). 4130 is about 30% stronger than 1020 DOM (what Alekshop uses) and Docol is 10-15% stronger than 4130. CMS uses 1.75" x .120" tubing vs. 1.75" x .095" tubing; strength-wise, the roll bars are in totally different categories. That's a little geeking out on specs, granted, but you seem justifiably concerned with structural safety (a roll bar is, after all, a safety device) as well as harness placement, etc.

You're right that DOM is more "forgiving" and suffers less weld-embrittlement than 4130, which is why a lot of chassis builders will use DOM in the roll cage of an otherwise-4130 chassis. We did the same in building full racing chassis until switching to Docol gave us the best of both worlds. Not trying to sway your decision, just giving you some info to consider. (When you add up materials, custom powder coating, and free shipping, I will admit we're trying to make it hard to choose another product!)

And I believe you can't buy them from Porsche (or Porsche Motorsport) anyway. Only if you own a CUP car ?

anyone in the Bay Area have the Schroth Porsche-specific carbon bucket 4pt belts with a bar that I can inspect- happy to meet most anywhere and buy you lunch for your troubles - if possible I'm going to be at thunderhill this weekend w/PCA Diablo and GGR - so if you're there come find me.

I'm thinking the following setup for my '18 GT3

GMG LMS Bar
6 points Hans compatible for driver seat
4 point Schroth for passenger seat - passenger seat gets used so rarely seems a reasonable compromise

any comments or concerns?

will the 4 point Schroth work with HANS - should I happen to have an instructor in the seat w/HANS?

thanks all!

Great Thread. I'm in the early processing of sorting my options out.

My goal (which appears achievable) is minor slot cutting to the opener rear generic 991 carpet over the engine area for belt pass through, and zero mods to the seat shelf carpet with the GT3 stitching.

If I break down and get a pseudo roll bar out of laziness, I like the custom layout BBi bars the best (love the curved main hoop, that is slick).
I would be in for one as well, if it helps to make two?

Any vendors want to pick up this business? Making us a simple harness bar using the rear pick up points? Here are a couple visual examples from the 997 car:

I will definitely have one made one for me, and I will put you guys in contact with the fabricator once done to have additional ones made for you.

My car arrives late April, so just give me until mid May. I’m motivated to get it done before my break-in miles are over so I can get to the track!

Alright guys, I've had a couple people IM me for the harness bar setup that I posted above (just clean straight across one bar).

My car will go into the fabricator's on May 8th... please send me a PM if you are interested in getting one of these and I'll add you to the list.

Best Regards,
Dave

Our partners at IND Distribution in Lake Zurich Illinois were able to get our WEC bar into the hands of a lucky 2RS owner this week. Doesn't it just look right at home?!
