Default LWB easy DIY lumbar support and back tilt

I have owned my GT3 with LWB seats for 6 months now. I have decided I would like to increase the lower lumbar support. I have discovered this can be easily done. Also I find this a technique for tilting the seat back a little.

The center seat back cushion is held in place with Velcro strips running down each side of the cushion. Simply grab the cushion at the bottom and pull up. Place foam padding to your desired thickness and height and replace the cushion. I am using 1" thick memory foam, it works great and can be easily layered.

To effectively tilt the seat back start adding foam at the bottom of the center cushion and work up as high as desired. Adding the foam at the bottom effectively moves your hips slightly forward. Tapering it part way up to the top (half way??) will effectively make the seat back seem tilted backwards.

It is then extremely easy to stop, pull up the cushion, adjust the position or thickness of the foam and replace the cushion. Making it infinitely adjustable and completely reversible - I love simple effective solutions!! The difference is just the perfect change, it made a good seat GREAT.

I am bringing some foam with me on the 500 mile journey to Rennsport V to continue the evaluation and adjustment process. I will bring extra should anyone desire to make the same adjustments and not have access to the foam material - you are welcome to join in.

This decreases the length of the thigh support area.

The decrease is minimal. The foam I am using is 1" thick and is very compressible memory foam. Therefore the length in the cushion loss is less thqan 3/8". That is if you use this technique for seat back tilt, i,e, placing the foam at the bottom of the back cushion. If used for lumbar increase it is placed 4-5 inches above the bottom of the cushion and your hip placement is exactly as before. All is adjustible easily should there be an issue. I trimmed the length of the foam and it's placement so that my hip placement was the same but the lumbar supp[ort was increased.

Good idea and easy to try. Where did you get the foam? Can it be ordered from Amazon?

I actually got it from a big warehouse supply company that wholesaled that product. But did it many years ago when I bought a bunch of material for another seat cushion project. I suspect you can find it by searching the internet. Any foam will work but the characteristics of the foam itself is important Sorry I dont have a referral for you, I just had the material on hand.

These easily removable panels mean that LWB can also be relatively diy'd for heat panels if we want heated seats,

as well as the all-important "plaid/tartan" seat covering upgrade for the full retro Spyder look.

I tried to remove the center panels from my GT3 with the base 4-way sport seats plus, but it didn't seem to work the same way as there isn't velcro all around the sides.

I was too chicken to pull really hard on mine, has anyone tried to remove the center alcantara parts of the sofa seats for the GT3?

I thought I remember seeing a thread where someone replaced the center portion of his GT3 seats with houndstooth..?

Removal of the center seat cushion in the LWB seat is extremely easy requiring minimal pressure. I suspect the "sofa's" are a different matter. I would be careful not to strong arm it.

Well done Greg. Thanks for the tip. For me, I must still say the support is just perfect, no need for any adjustments.

Great idea! I've been using a lumbar pad but love the fact that this option will look stock. Here is a link on Amazon for some 1 inch foam.

I'm getting some tartan cushions made up for my targa - I don't think it works that well in the GT3 without going very light colors, as it's pretty dark in the cockpit.
