Lightning Lap

Jim Mero did NOT do the driving in the Lightning Lap. It was done by a C&D crew.
For absolute laptime, at best a 991 GT3 stock is about as quick as my C6 Z06 With Z07 package. The C7Z Z07 car is clearly much faster with extra HP, chassis, electronics and downforce. I don't predict the RS will come close either.
Chevy has a lot of fix in regards to cooling issues on the new Z06. If/when they sort that out, they'll be track stars. Until then I'd have a hard time recommending one for track usage.
As usual, the GT3 is bullet proof for continuous lapping without worrying about mechanical issues. That holds plenty of weight for me and a huge reason why I respect the car so much.

Spare me
Sure we are all gt3 lovers but man up when your *** is kicked - sure the Bette has heat sink problems but the gt3 was sidelined for months to replace the engine - give me a break - we can all find fault with the car we compete against at the track or as status symbol or whatever metric we apply to our purchase but the facts are the fact and the vette is one fast car and at the same time I wish I was higher up on the rs waiting list and not having to deal with the games and bull at my porsche dealer who just offered me a gt4 at 40k over sticker while showing me an rs that the owner ordered that they will shortly be selling at 100k ovwe. It's making me think that heat sink issues might be fine compared to d bag dealers

There should be no surprise that a C7 Z06 is faster than a 991 GT3 at VIR.
Just look at the list of all the 180 cars C&D have ever tested in their Lightning Lap issues.
The previous 2011 C6 Z06 was already faster than the 2011 997.2 GT3 RS (2:53.5 vs 2:55.9).
HP/torque matter at VIR given many areas where full throttle can be used.
The 991 GT3 laptime has improved on the previous 997.2 GT3 RS by 5.5 seconds.
The supercharged C7 Z06 laptime has improved on the previous naturally aspirated C6 Z06 by 8.9 seconds, although maybe it should be compared to the previous supercharged C6 ZR1, where the C7 Z06 is faster by 7.2 seconds.
Bottom line, both Chevy and Porsche have improved their cars in terms of laptimes. Nothing has really changed. The Z06/ZR1 has always been faster than the GT3/RS at VIR in C&D's hands.
Maybe we'll see where the 991 GT3 RS stands at next year's Lightning Lap issue.

Got rid of McLaren because of limp mode and overheating at track.
No issues with GT3 ever. Every generation.
Currently, no issues with the Huracan either. Great cars!
There is no other car that can consistently do lap after lap, 20F or 110F at the track, out of the box. Sure, there may be faster cars, but for a reasonably fast car that doesn't eat up tires and brakes, and lasts forever on track, you cannot beat the GT3.

Lightning Lap
To be clear, I was not dumping on the vette. No doubt it would be quicker, I just don't buy a gap that big over than length of lap / nature of the track. 6 seconds is an eternity and the important spec for each car (power, torque, weight, grip, aero) do not seem to support that much separation. I would really like to see a pure head to head. Although if Mero was not driving it maybe that is what we got.

Burning Brakes
After seeing the C7 Z06 up close and personal yesterday with my new RS, I am intrigued by the car. It seems to walk my RS at corner exits; curious if the RS has any specific driving advantage to it (not including build quality, interior materials, etc.)

I still have my 2015 Z06 with the Z07 package, and I still love it. I ordered a 570S from my dealer but they are not building cars until Novermber so I won't get it until probably early Jan, but I doubt it will be any faster than my Z anyway. The only car in the horizon that I may get that could be faster will be the 488. That one shows some promise!

I've seen a few Z06s overheat on the track. Power steering overheating to warped heads. The track car to really look out for is the 2016 Viper ACR. That car will be the new king on the track.

Spoke with fellow at Chin last week with a 2015 viper and he said they are having temp issues in Texas. I think what it comes down to is that gt cars are some of the few up to the task.

I picked up a 15 zo6 to kill the time until the rs gets here.
For just street use, its one of the top 5 cars ive owned. Id buy another one next spring.
Manual trans is awesome. The power is endless, and usable.
Car looks and sounds badass, and Im not a vette guy.
