Default 991 GT3 Oil/Smoke on Start Up

I understand that these engines are prone to the occasional smoke on start up. My past 2 997 GT3's would do this on rare occasion.

However, the 991 GT3 seems to smoke consistently on cold start (first of the day). The volume of white/black smoke is much larger than on the old motor. If the car is parked in a garage it really lays down a thick layer of arid smoke.

Have any of you noticed a decrease on smoke as you've increased the miles on the motor?

Is there any advantage to a different viscosity oil?

Any special engine "shut down" procedures that would decrease the start up smoke?

Thanks

I can't remember who suggested this but I've had mine for 4 1/2 months and have yet to see any smoke on start up. What I do when I'm finished with my ride, I park it in my garage and let it idle for atleast a minute before I shut it off. Once again, I'm not sure if this is the reason, but mine's a non-smoker.

Every now and then mine will smoke on startup. Make sure you get your car up to operating temp before shutting it down.

I've had great luck letting it idle before shutdown. Otherwise it's like

Default 991 GT3 Oil/Smoke on Start Up

When I first got my car with 3300 miles, it never smoked then as I put the miles on it did. Quite often. I found that if I keep the rpms down until it reaches good operating temps and let it cool back down before cutting it off, has helped. I haven't noticed it smoking anymore.

I haven't noticed any smoke after the track day. :-)

Sometimes the long idle helps. However, there are still times when my car fills the driveway with smoke.

1350 miles, smokes every time I start it. My neighbors think I am the worst emissions polluter in the world.

Default smoke

I'm glad that it's just not me.

I've tried allowing the car to idle for a minute or two before shut down which doesn't help.

When I run the car hard for the day it doesn't smoke at all until the next morning.

It means your car is pissed at you for not driving it more and harder.

As dark knight mentioned, there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. I thought it smoked less after hard use/track days, but that is not always the case. Yesterday I started the car after it had been sitting with no smoke. Took a brief drive and then it sat for 30 mins. When I started it for the second time of the day it smoked more than it ever has. I can't get a sense of any patterns. I have tried giving it a few revs before shutting off, that doesn't seem to have an impact. The only thing I have not tried is letting it run a few mins before shutting it off. Maybe I should start doing that.

This Gt3 smokes a hell of a lot more than my first 991 gt3. Not sure why. I believe it has to do with the color of the paint.

Mine used to smoke frequently. At times the smoke will fill the entire garage. It would also burn 1/4-1/2 quart of oil every track day. I'm using 5w-50 oil.

Today I'm at 8500 miles and 2000 track miles. The car no longer burns any oil and no longer smokes on startup.
