Who has run the stock brake pads on track(steel)
I'm setting up my GT4 for track. I'm going to ultimately going to run track pads but i haven't decided which . I thought Id run the stock pads for a day while i get a feel for the car.I will run torque 700 fluid. How do the stock pads hold up for track days?
thanks carl

Haha. In all seriousness, i find them fantastic and will be even better in the lighter gt4, which may very well the most over-braked production car ever... But that's a good thing!

I have the stock pads on the steel brakes. I did 1 track day and then had the dealer look over the car, and he said the brakes were perfect. Car has 2600 miles now and no issues with the brakes.

The stock pads are great I got 6 track days on them before I got to 50%. I will save the pads for street use or if my new Ferodo track pads squeal too much. I changed the stock brake fluid after the 2nd track day. The brakes started to feel a little spongy and the Motul RBF 600 brake fluid corrected that.

+1! Same experience here.

Burning Brakes
Likewise tracked in very hot conditions (100F+) with stock pads, rotors, and fluid and zero fade all day. Let an instructor take it for a few laps in the afternoon and he said they were the best stock brakes he's ever used.

Carl, the only brake mods that I'll do for my GT4 prior to hitting the track upgrading fluid to Motul 660 and installing SS lines.

I would recommend using the OE pads with upgraded racing brake fluid as that works pretty well for beginner to intermediate track use.
Once the OE pads are burned out, I would upgrade the pads to a proper race pad if you don’t mind the noise.

I had an horrible experience with stock pads (Black Pagid). I simply couldn't do anything...
I switch them to another compound after the first trackday, and it went much better!
Afterwards, I think that maybe something was wrong with my stock pads...

I have 2 light track days at TWS and 1 day at COTA on OEM pads and they're at about 75%. total of about 10k mi (mostly highway). They don't seem to have as much initial "bite" as I like. I have a set of Ferodos from Apex and will try them when the originals get to 50%.

I guess I'm a beginner then... FWIW, I used Pagid RS29's on my 981CS and they worked well, way better than stock. IMHO, the stock GT3 brakes are significantly better. Outside of fluid, get some Tarrett caliper studs and leave it at that.

Was riding with a student at COTA this weekend running irons and stock pads. We had trouble stopping consistently going into T12. It was fine the first couple of times, but then stopping became unstable - the car swayed from side to side, kinda like a 997 with a bad diff. Eventually it was fading everywhere - enough to throw off the driver's timing. I would not drive flat out with stock pads at COTA.
