Can I do without the front axle lift option
FYI: 991.2 Carerra S/GTS's, etc. will now have the lift as an option in addition to rear wheel steering as one too. Interesting.

The GT3 is really low and the front protrudes out. I use my lift all the time. It's just piece of mind. Pulling into a gas station from a busy street, the train of cars behind me are not held up by me slowing down beyond a reasonable amount and using some optimal approach angle. Personally I would not consider a car without the lift. Good luck.

I'm in the market for a GT3 too and would not consider a car without it.
It all depends where you live. Here in Houston, it's a mandatory option as far as I am concerned.
I just sold my Nissan 370Z Nismo, and while I loved the car, driving it around here has been a nightmare. Just getting out of my driveway was a pain in the a$$ involving backing out at an insane angle. I literally had to research destinations on Google Maps to determine whether I could get my car in a driveway.
Most speed bumps aren't a problem, it's the approach angles of driveways. A group of us took our cars to Austin one time, and had to back out of the "in" ramp at our hotel due to the approach angle of the exit.
In 3-1/2 years of ownership, I replaced two front lower trays, and incurred over $2,000 in damage.
Good to hear the 991.2 will also have front axle lift. It really should just be standard, but with more lift range. I won't have a Porsche without it.

I own an M3 as a DD. The daily obstacles I encounter with the M3 are no issue at all. With the GT3, the same obstacles present a real issue. I require the axle lift.
"I" would not buy GT3 without.

never needed it with any of my GT3's or my RS. I don't nearly ever use it on the Huracan either...is it nice to have for the maybe 1 time I haven't been sure about it? Necessary? Honestly I don't think so. I do drive in Philly often and don't have problems there. HOWEVER...in LA...ABSOLUTELY YES...but those are some of the highest incline driveways I've ever seen.

I had it on my .2 and I don't have it on my current car. I don't miss it and have no problems with my location. As others have noted it really depends on where you drive and your circumstances. If you have a steep driveway approach or have to access a steep drive in a parking garage then you might want it. If you go slow you will most likely just scrape the bottom of the splitter and you can't see that unless you are under the car. For resale you may or may not have an issue. If it fails out of warranty it is an expensive item to replace.

Not sure if you are buying a new or used one. If you are buying a used one, maybe the dealer will let you drive it home and see if you have any problem on YOUR driveway. If a GT3 is not available, see if you can drive a turbo s home. If the turbo s scrapes then the GT3 will most likely scape too.

Can I do without the front axle lift option
Moral of the story:
Some can do with/without it. Not really a right/wrong answer. All personal preference depending on usage and location.
My advice on options, if there are some that are towards the top of most "want lists", better to have them if you care about resale. Nobody would pass on a GT3 most likely if it had a lift. If it didn't have a lift, probably a deal breaker for 40% of buyers.

My wife's '07 GT3 obviously does not have a lift and it is survivable enough that I considered not ordering it on the '16. But then considering that the '07 is only just "survivable" and a bit of a pita without the lift, I quickly optioned-in the lift....
My wife met me for lunch this week and having arrived at the restaurant before her, I had the pleasure of watching (and hearing) her "wonk" the nose of the car into the parking lot. It isn't just speed bumps, it is the angles...
This is from that lunch this week, can you see the scrapes on her "chin":

Lift makes a huge difference with approach angles, which is important in places with hills or with ancient crowned roads. Even when it's not necessary, it makes driving more enjoyable. I almost never have to angle my car - just push the button and drive. It scrapes sometimes even with lift on, but the front lip has enough flex to handle almost anything. In fact, sometimes front has minimal scrape with lift on and rear has a bigger scrape. The roads here are ****...
